[UltraVid id=77 ]Hey how’s it going Rob Stewart here I made a new meal I’ve been eating it as some of you know I like to like make one type of food and just eat it a lot for like weeks at a time it’s just what I like to do for some reason and I’ve been eating this new meal and it’s got a weird combination of stuff in it I haven’t quite worked out the science on what it’s going to do but so far the experiment has been going really good I feel really really good on it and here it is it’s basically straight so when we got in there is basmati rice some greens some cilantro some chopped up pineapple some Damacio boom a plum vinegar and then a little tiny bit of sauerkraut very simple very easy to make and really really really tasty so the whole key of this for me and the reason why it works so well as its high in carbohydrates which gives me a ton of energy none of this will stick to my body the basmati rice just flows right through the pineapple is sweet and delicious and packed with lots of phytonutrients that I love and the cilantro obviously is amazing cleanser delicious helps my kidneys helps clean the blood and the greens the greens bring the protein the greens bring all of the minerals and all of the the juicy nutrients that that I love and it’s a combo meal of some cooked and some raw and some fermented and yeah so my money going to try and observe how you feel and if your belly hurts may be removed pineapple or remove the sauerkraut and play with it and make it your own so thanks for watching.

[UltraVid id=74 ]What are you putting in your body dead carcass pain suffering fear can I have all of my vegans go into that pool of light and my non-vegans in that pool away first statement taste plays a big factor in my eating choices yeah I mean that’s a huge thing for me I think it’s one of my weaknesses actually like butter salt it’s one of my weaknesses I love food actually deepened when I became vegan I don’t think I appreciated it as much as I did before I was vegan my name is Aubrey Davis and I have been vegetarian for 24 years and a vegan for 13 years I believe that humans are the top of the food chain is a human at the same level of equivalence is like a fish right there’s probably a big reason why I’m not vegan anymore right is I didn’t I could I didn’t see that I had to see myself I don’t moral equivalent of a fish and it gets into moral questions like you know why should we have a pet that’s a dog rather than eat the dog and I think the most important question is why should I love my neighbor rather than eat my neighbor my name is Steve Michele ski I was a vegan for a year I was vegetarian for two years I’m a meat-eater now I’ve been so for over five years like I don’t even see like what is like a food chain you know I’m saying that’s just some contract some guy made and put a little diagram and put us the human beings on the top so I don’t leave the question of whether we’re at the top I think it’s a question of what do you do with that if you have a more conscious energy than an animal what do you do with that power do you choose to take a life or do you choose to live in love I put a lot of thought into my meals the way I support my body and my health is extremely important I don’t find that I can function at my best either healthy productive emotionally stable or intellectually capable unless I have a lot of proper nutrients in my diet six years ago I became vegan because I got sick I started to realize that my health was directly attached to what I ate since then my friends and family have supported me to feeling better and I’m better than I once before I got sick I don’t really like cook or anything so I don’t really put too much thought into what I eat I guess I live a fast paced kind of like I’m working late night so I’m waking up early so sometimes it’s easier to grab this quick process sandwich or I wish I planned my meals out more I think I would be a lot I would feel a lot better I think it’s really powerful no matter what you’re eating to put your intentions into whether it’s prayer invocation and there’s such great power and presence versus just like scarfing something down but like can I just really be present with this meal take my time and chew it slowly so that’s the first night resonate with and what I choose to do I would kill an animal I think there’d be tons of context where I’d kill an animal like if if a Lions gonna go kill a baby I’d probably kill an animal I’d kill an animal to save a human life and I get the vegans probably wouldn’t do that if I could do something to prevent killing them besides eating them like if I was protecting myself and we had to we had it like a something that we could do to get that animal away I would definitely try to not kill it I mean Ivy comes down to you with the animal you killing the animal I would I would give up their life for the fish why is it always the case when talking about would I kill an animal like exactly if you were lions running around downtown LA when I was in the hiking there’s there’s mountain lions that coming and kill people you’ve known that right that’s an Orange County that’s not that’s not in the jungle in Africa it’s Orange County mountain lions have killed hikers kids just let them know let the yes I we’re hiking in the mountains and there’s a mountain lion I have to be aware the fact that I’m in mountain lion territory and be like I’m okay with the risk because to be honest I’m not hiking with a gun I have no way to defend my friend you don’t hike with a hiking pole I mean I can pull against a mountain lion I don’t think you’re I just I just want to say like even if I did and even if my attempt were to be successful I would feel awful having killed the mountain lion what way your feelings or your foundation than for your beliefs 100% are human beings animals yes yes sure would you kill another human being to save another human being yes what makes one person more viable to another is it your relationship to that person it would yeah it would probably be so if for example I raised an animal in the wild it’s like an animal I’ve built a relationship with and that animal now threatens the life of a human being but I don’t know but I’ve known an animal its entire life what makes killing that animal as just cause okay as opposed to saving that life I have a live a longer relationship with that animal why would I kill the animal before I’d save that person it’s not relationship you kill them a person / an animal it’s because I believe human beings are animals now I see humans at a different level but maybe a value fish at the same levels person I have we see it very different I do it costs more than it should to eat healthy it’s more expensive to eat healthy I don’t think it’s too expensive farmers market is something that I’m trying to frequent more but sometimes you know you can go spend twenty dollars here and definitely not get as much I definitely want to see that you know maybe that’ll encourage people to eat a little healthier if you can go grab that fresh fruit those fresh veggies for five ten bucks you know I think our culture as a society is just in great towards like the fast food culture and which is cheap and accessible but now I think we have more of established like medical bases on what’s healthy and what’s not healthy and to get that content and to have it be tasty as well is is expensive I’m running in it does not cost more money to be vegan that is a myth it takes planning yes the convenience is less can you grab a hamburger at McDonalds for sure for 99 cents but how much lentils can you buy the issue is capitalism like that is what is keeping us where we are it’s not that humans are smarter and they’re gonna come up with this technology the technology exists it is there we can feed so many people it is capitalism and factory farming and most these companies that are selling us products that are like shitty food they don’t give a fuck about you at all period someone sitting on the island somewhere oh yeah like just stacking bread and then probably fast food eating really healthy food that shit you go to certain neighborhoods certain areas you don’t see the same fast-food you don’t see the same restaurant and it’s all for a reason they know I mean yeah that’s a good point it’s like they don’t have why’s there are many health food stores in the hood like my pant like get an option Weiser Lucas is everywhere and it’s true it’s like gift when you break it down there’s like malicious intent to D harmonize and like lower the vibration of certain people in certain areas and it’s like that’s a part of it too it’s like what am i contributing to true I’ll say this you know when I was 11 years old my father passed away from his second heart attack he was diabetic he was pissing out of a2 by Washington deteriorate my youngest here’s my life for like years and years just to tr-8 taking pharmaceutical drugs and just kind of basically dying slowly because of what he chose the 8th to me I’d rather spend an extra dollar I need organic or something healthy now and live longer than try to cut corners when you know now instead of later my mom would same thing she died she she was eating buckets of ice cream when she passed away she died at 49 years old Wow now choose now the more education that we can put out there just like stuff like this is beautiful that’s what I was most anxious about is learning more of what I’m trying to step into I don’t know if I’ll ever give up chicken I’m just gonna be honest with you I don’t know I want to eat a lot cleaner chicken do you guys have like cheat days ever I am vegan 100% at the frontline ethical reasons always always always and that’s why I don’t think in 24 years I’ve ever gone back it was hard to try new things things I didn’t like found tons of vegan food that was like oh god fuck you people here and then simultaneously realizing that there was options you know there’s always choices and it’s always choices we make like you said you may never give up meat fully but it’s like you’re making a choice or at least thinking for yourself and making a decision and like that’s all you can ask people to do is think for themselves I really appreciate each and every one of y’all I think so really appreciate y’all thank you for coming out what’s up guys I am Amari and I am Jason and am I’ve got a question for you you have a question for me what do you like about little Rhonda what I like about middle ground is seeing people come together and like realize that their labels are not the whole sum of their experience like take it off take it off the labels realizing there’s so much more than their labels that’s right I love that all right well tell us in the comments below why you love middle ground and if you’ve been a label that you want to take off and throw in the ground tell us that as well we love you guys as always please subscribe hit that like button I’ll see you next time
[UltraVid id=67 ]In our previous film we showcased the increasing health environmental and ethical awareness around the globe as more and more people began to speak out why do we rarely hear climate change campaigns targeting the animal agriculture industry let’s follow the money stream funded study disproportion between that little bit of extra pleasure you might get from eating meat and a phenomenal amount of destruction required to produce it should surely commend it to anyone as a stupid thing to do what do you think is the biggest misconception about a vegan diet the biggest misconception is everyone says where do you get your protein and I’ve had a long-term health condition and I’ve seen a dramatic shift in my health in the last 12 days it’s recognized again by the American insurance industry that there’s only two dietary plans that can reverse heart disease there’s no meat in those programs they’re plant-based programs it’s blatantly obvious now that we do not need to consume animals to be healthy will be far healthy without them [Music] as veganism continued to grow in popularity and garner mainstream appeal the meat industry found themselves under increasing pressure you say yourself you have a vested interest Cormack in this are you worried about veganism growing in popularity because the meat and dairy industry let’s be honest and not pull any punches it’s a sunset industry [Music] it has no place in civilized society period this film says 2018 story behind the changing conversation for me I want to bring a message which is veganism and that there doesn’t have to be torture in fabulous fashion 2018 this next year is our year like it’s the year we go mainstream we’re definitely seeing for 2018 the theme overall is plant-based eating have fights but there are doctors that there are lawyers that there are people out there who are also embracing this as people use digital technology more than ever the lies created by powerful industries were revealed and the shape-shifting began what’s for dinner what’s with it steroid injected minced cow bollocks courtesy of the farming industry tearing up rainforests to plant animal feed I have slowly and reluctantly come to the conclusion that as it stands now honest doctors can no longer practice honest medicine we have a complete healthcare system failure we are contemplating an agricultural crisis an ecological crisis as well as the climate breakdown crisis and it’s being driven by the food that we eat and the way that it’s produced there’s a 500% increase in vegans in the United States since 2014 that’s like a growing growing number Simone from eat free food increased by nearly eight thousand percent last year and the number of people who are going vegan has quadrupled in the last five years now more and more people are cutting out meat and dairy products and adopting a plant-based diet and we can live well without causing harm to other animals why wouldn’t me we felt like you know what I agree with you I’m just gonna saying I agree with you completely there you know the evidence is clear the the future is definitely plan based it’s not just a trend it’s not just a phase people have been hit with multiple sources of in and still hasn’t hit everybody but more and more people are seeing some pretty dramatic and compelling research that long while vegans all the time is more about people taking the emphasis to change their life and be active and to spread the message in 2018 I have seen an explosive growth in the vegan movement we’re gonna be looking at a very very different world in about five years where a huge percentage of people will be vegan I think we’re very close to that tipping point what was once a fringe movement is now mainstream there’s no stereotype anymore I mean we really are heading into a plant-based revolution the world is changing the new year assured in vegan Yuri an initiative that has seen explosive growth over the last few years and encourages the public to try a plant-based diet in case you hadn’t noticed this month is being called V January it’s vegan January it’s people cutting back on meat and dairy foods for their new year’s resolution and many retailers and restaurants have picked up on the trend in January 2018 it broke new records grabs headlines and set off a series of TV debates if people want to do is get on with it quietly do whatever you want to do and arguments against veganism flooded the mainstream go back to the time of the caveman for God’s sake its nature do you understand that what happened in jungles we’ve developed we’ve met we’ve we’ve grown k-19 we’re put me right off him I found it it was a wimp because it couldn’t order a good psychical red-blooded man you can order a good steak so if you think about PETA and environmentalist groups veganism they’re all able to exist now in 2018 because of the meat eaters of the past who built this amazing civilization that allows unfocused adults to chase their fringe causes what do you think people need meat just stupid not eating meat that’s just stupid it’s not a real thing why is it stupid because everybody likes me how would you know unless you ate who can’t eat a good piece bacon and you say that people who are on vegan diets are malnourished and people who are malnourished are more likely to commit crimes presumably you’re not going out and collecting your own nuts and seeds and plants are you know and so I think he’s healing those clocks oh yeah who’s killing all those plants well who’s collecting them because you make the the anti vegan backlash continued when iconic cooking show Great British Bake Off announced it was going vegan for a week with some unable to hide their fury on social media boycotting the show on principle vegans were branded demons at meat industry conferences senior editors made jokes about killing vegans and the rhetoric on mainstream media became weaker and even irrelevant now if you look at avocados for example which many vegans consume and we’re now consuming six times the the number of avocados here in the West than five years ago even you know that the Mexican rainforest is being completely destroyed but is it possible that the vegans and the vegetarians have gotten hold of the Agriculture Department and infiltrated it so to speak and are pushing a meatless menu on the rest of the world Americans eat two times as much that’s because we win all the world wars we gotta go we’re undefeated you don’t think as a steak dude oh I don’t want to think about it arguments against veganism were tested on mainstream platforms and the debate was raging if you saw an animal die right if you’re the animal die for slaughter they’re slaughtered the beef in front of you could you then eat a steak because that’s the hypocrisy icon would anybody here go plant-based those are practical questions I want to get to the weave question the moral question do we do we have dominion over the animals they are peers Angie says there is real evidence of a plant-based diet thing not only healthier for the individual but the planet now veganism was gaining mainstream appeal its detractors were finding it hard to provide credible arguments and their weaknesses were being exposed I mean to you show that people come to your farm things like the the artificial insemination do you know what happens to the carbs to show them the pens that kept in for upset at time whether or not allowed to see their mums allowed to nurture like to socialize you tell them to the slaughterhouse as well and show the knight being pulled across their front I do keep up their head and then just show currently cows grazing it mean facts I like to think that we show everyone the full spectrum well do do you what you either do what you don’t well I like to think that we do yes so do you show that people have come to your farm what happens to the dairy cows they take it from their mother yes I do show the fact they stuck on people’s fingers because they want to suckle from their mother to obtain the milk that we take those right into that when you take a car away from its mum what is that process like in response to V January in the TV appearances it brought came an increasing backlash from the dairy industry which launched Feb you dairy led by livestock specialist dr. Judith capper farmers were instructed to spread a positive message of the dairy industry throughout February I thought it was rather a shame not to celebrate all of the fabulous dairy products that we all have access to every single day so for example we have butter on bread here and lastly of course nice cold ice cold belt that’s the old slogan used to go Febby dairy did little to convince the public to rally behind the dairy industry instead it had an unexpected effect many used Furby dairy to create awareness about the dairy industry and initiatives were launched including the switch for good campaign at the end of February which aired an anti dairy advert during the Winter Olympic Games is closing ceremony I did it and I got stronger I did it to take back my life I did it to run faster and I ran faster the next day I did it for my athletic performance and it worked I made the switch at almost 40 for my health I didn’t need dairy milk to make Olympic history twice going back to cow’s milk no way I made a switch for good for good for good I am proud to be dairy free as the message around dairy spread things were also starting to change behind the scenes powerful investors were joining forces with food tech leaders and this by the end of 2018 would put significant pressure on the animal agriculture industry we could produce all the protein required by the world’s population 2050 with 2% of Earth’s land if we did it the way we’re producing our meat as opposed to more than 45% of Earth’s land that’s currently being used raising animals for food as we get closer and closer to building a piece of meat that has no differences from its animal protein equivalent we welcome in literally hundreds of thousands of new consumers with every incremental change and step we make forward to making this product as good as it could be the meat analog industry which laid down its roots in Europe in the 1970s with products like textured vegetable protein was traditionally seen as tasteless and unfashionable but in 2018 it had morphed into a more lucrative and exciting market one company beyond meat insisted that their plant-based burger be positioned in the meat aisle it was a gamble but knowing the product’s taste and texture had begun to mimic traditional meat bosses didn’t want it hidden away in the free from section within months of merchandising the burger it was out selling beef in some stores in Southern California and one of the largest conventional retailers in the country we are now the number one selling patty in any case so a head of Angus ahead of 80/20 beef ahead of Turkey chicken burger patties and our belief is that we will transform the meat section into the protein section so it’s no longer just hamburger chicken over chicken breast it’s cow protein chicken protein and plant protein and the results have been phenomenal we have launched this now into two largest retailers in the United States in several regions the beyond burger is the top-selling packaged burger in the meat section to have that level of interest in the products in the meat case itself this was really exciting other supermarkets began to position plant-based products in the meat aisle the meat analog industry quickly attracted high-profile investors such as one of Asia’s richest men leek King Bill Gates and Leonardo DiCaprio among others as influences around the world became increasingly aware of the impacts of animal agriculture the scale of the impact of the environmental impacts of my culture is really hard to appreciate it blows almost everything else out of the water it’s responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than all planes cars trains and other transportation combined that is really shocking when you read that above the fossil fuel industry takes at least ten times as much energy and resources to make a pound of animal protein as it does for plant-based protein we cannot continue to sustain our population on the level of meat consumption that we are without having something change and what we’ve heard now is that we need to keep it below one and a half degrees temperature rise and in order to do that we must absolutely cut down on meat and dairy consumption and so it’s the quickest way that we have for grabbing the thermostat of the planet and turning it down even if we don’t care about ourselves we have our children eighty percent of all US antibiotics are fed to farmed animals getting too dangerous incurable human diseases the world has plenty of scope to feed 9 billion 10 billion 12 billion people but not if we’re all eating steak and chicken and pork we have to go to that plant-based diet if you know if there’s would be any fair settlement fair dispensation for the rest of the century so that we don’t have a situation where the rich can just pursue whatever desires they want while the poor die as a result the most striking statistic for me is that 100% of famine is a result of animal agriculture and I sometimes have people challenge that fact I’m like it takes 280 pounds of grain to make one pound of beef you fed that grain directly to people and building meat from plants quickly became a huge scientific research effort new facilities were set up and the stage was set for huge change we live in an age of disruption we have uber and lyft disrupting the taxi cab and limo industry we have Airbnb disrupting the hotel industry and we need to disrupt the entrenched fast-food industry those dinosaurs we are almost 50 percent preferred by meat consumers over the meat they get today and so in two three years we’ve essentially caught up to the cow but we’re only getting better and we already know a bunch of ways that we can make our product better from the fat system the way the flavors generate the texture and the chew and as we continue to research and build that with our team we’ll start delivering this and you know next year and the year after it’ll be better and better to the point where the cowl really is completely obsolete as a technology for food oh you’re gonna love this you can have a great tasting juicy burger without the meat like my husband has an impossible burger and he is like this tastes like a regular burger to me I don’t know everything else on this thing we did the burger itself what do you think I like it this thing tastes like me it smells like me if you put it in the pan or put it in the grill it acts like meat and I’m telling you in the next let’s say five to seven years the impact on the meat industry is going to be strong none of what you say here comes from an animal not even the egg what we tend to do no matter what it’s focused on the things that matter or we’re reaching more people are we doing in a way that’s actually helping the planet instead of harming the planet and if the answer is yes to those things we feel good and if the answer is not we feel like assholes and our biggest question is is this thing is this person we’re hiring is this thing we’re doing increasing the probability that we do more good and if the answer is yes we’re going after it to test this out we got 10 regular cheeseburgers in ten impossible vegetarian burgers to do a little compare and contrast as businesses capitalized on the selling power of plant-based alternatives many physicians within healthcare dug deeper tastes great and you get to live longer that’s what plant-based eating is all about using the remarkable power of whole food plant-based nutrition to prevent and treat disease say goodbye to the days of just hot dogs and hamburgers on the hospital menu Good Samaritan is starting to incorporate healthier plant-based items in their patient diets every diet requires a little bit of thinking a little bit of learning some new tricks in the kitchen maybe learning some new tastes but a plant-based diet emerges as not only better for blood sugar control better for your weight better for your cholesterol better for your blood pressure but better in so many ways that we really think that’s the thing to recommend in 2018 a number of studies were published supporting the increasingly accepted idea that a Whole Foods plant-based diet is optimal for health one example being a review paper published in cardiovascular medicine stating that the only diet shown to reverse heart disease is a plant-based diet a sentiment echoed by physicians for a number of years heart disease is the number one killer in the United States and heart disease is reversible and preventable with nutrition we know we have the cure to heart disease we have the ability to eradicate heart disease a plant-based diet has also been shown to reverse type 2 diabetes hypertension and prostate cancer as well as prevent 14 of the 15 leading causes of death eating a plant-based diet has extraordinary health benefits reduce risk for hypertension reduced risk for high cholesterol reduced risk for cardiovascular disease I’ve seen patients who have full-blown diabetes go off of their insulin completely I’ve seen patients with hypertension that have been on multiple antihypertensives for years come off of all of their medications the British Dietetic Association and the American Academy of dietitians have both said that a well-planned vegan diet can be a completely healthful and optimal diet for anyone at all stages of life but this gushin opened up not just about how healthy plant-based diets are but also about what is wrong with our current system right now we have a system that is based almost completely on sick care instead of health care we call it health care but it really is sick care is money in dollars behind sickness we spend more money in this country than any other country in the world on health care and we don’t have better outcomes so somebody has to stop and say hmm what is going on here when you eat the standard American diet you get the standard American diseases and I don’t wish chronic disease on anybody but if people are eating a debilitating diet they’re gonna have debilitating diseases heart disease the diabetes the autoimmune diseases certain forms of cancer milk does a body good it’s not science it’s marketing it’s nonsense we were made to believe that meat based diets are superior to plant-based diets lie that has been exposed by medical experts again when people get a lot of animal products typically based protein your arteries are more likely to get clogged your arteries are more likely constrict the arteries are more likely to get clogged up with plaque and other things you get chronic inflammation which is an underlying causes so many chronic diseases your risk of premature death from pretty much everything goes up correspondingly and yet when you go on a plant-based diet you’re only getting a double benefit because not only you’re not eating the things that are disease promoting but you’re getting literally hundreds of thousands of other substances that are that are protective what you put in your body is either going to create disease of fighting there is no middle ground I’ve seen them reverse their high blood pressure reverse their diabetes reverse their obesity simply by telling them to go home and instead of using a scalpel use a knife and use a fork also in 2018 a number of athletes ditched animal products and films were announced that would slay the myth that you can’t be strong as a vegan someone asked me how could you get as strong as an ox without eating any meat and my answer was have you ever seen an ox eating meat vegan athlete started appearing in major magazines with bodybuilder NEMA Delgado gracing the cover of muscle and fitness and Jeremy rinder’s the fittest man in the Netherlands featuring on the front of men’s health I love you always asking like so where do you get your protein and love you don’t have a clue that there’s protein implants stop worrying about the protein because you’re good enough you know the strongest land animals horses elephants rhinos I don’t know gorillas they get their protein from plants during the winter Olympics Canadian figure skater and decade-long vegan Meaghan dermal made headlines around the world when she claimed to medals record holding marathon runner and vegan Fiona Oakes completed the atacama ultra marathon and as 2018 progressed numerous athletes spoke out about how a plant centred approach to eating had made them stronger including NHL players Ino Chara boxer Mike Rasheed soccer players Hector veteran jermain defoe and Chris Smalling as well as Lewis Hamilton I do feel the best I’ve ever felt in my life and went 32 years physically do any of you guys still eat meat nothing how hard was that not as hard as it is living at one and 25 is absolutely I’ve watched hundreds if not maybe thousands of people at this point have dramatic transformation plant-based athletes from a wide range of sports claimed podium positions in various competitions from world-class surfer Tia Blanco to power lifter Juliette Rosie’s Conroy and ultra runner Vlad axel as well as many others who also achieved stunning successes [Applause] thanks Aviva reckonin gives him a little nudge towards the right-hand side how about some moves into the lead of the Italian Grand Prix as more and more influencers adopted a plant-based diets businesses were starting to see how they could cash in on the movement why invest I blogger now my logo Naik promoted the plant-based lifestyle Stella McCartney made trainer history when she launched a vegan version of adidas iconic Stan Smith shoe and other fashion brands became increasingly aware of consumer demands for animal free clothing and accessories while luxury fashion houses like Gucci and Michael cause started ditching fur in 2017 even more names followed suit in 2018 including Belstaff Burberry John Galliano and Versace Versace for so long you know they were leaders in the fur industry and for Donatella Versace to literally come out and say you know what I’m done with that we’re winning for the first time ever the catwalks of London Fashion Week were completely fur free prompting calls for other cities to follow suit Helsinki banned leather and both Los Angeles and San Francisco voted unanimously to ban the sale of fur Burberry announced it would no longer use angora and fashion giant ASOS pledged to bans silk mohair feathers and cashmere a decision many credited to animal rights charity Pizza which inspired a number of high street shops including Topshop H&M and Marks & Spencer’s to stop using mohair away from fashion a key moment came when supermarket Tesco after hiring a director of plant-based innovation in 2017 launched a major plant-based line with more than 20 options rolling out across 600 stores it started an avalanche of dedicated vegan sections and product launches from vegan butter cheese and ice cream to sandwiches and other ready-made meals in light of new consumer demand due to less meat there’s a lot of meat people and meat industries gonna go down you know as stores expanded their meat free offerings these products became for the first time ever headline news alerting more and more people to the options available everywhere icky sweet potato yam banana and tomato cabbage spinach avocado cha-cha button bean and Coco courgette million planting rice and peas and pumpkin mango dates and guava chickpeas and cassava brussel sprouts and cauliflower onion fennel and cucumber plum Pierre and papaya aubergine and style I meant to thank in our home your bread in Homer flower watercress and okra tofu and sweeper bar couscous Ankara broccoli a coconut peaches apples apricot Redfoo Jack was so us our pistachios cashews and almonds Warren a peanut are so freakin sesame seed sunflower lemon orange pineapple and melon logo eaten garlic EG king a rocket photo and pomegranate ki week on and turning berries cherries and strawberries be too great see there’s a lot of food your now I heard this morning in twenty five thousand stores we are yeah which is fabulous it’s a wonderful experience yeah and certainly the buzzword that I’m hearing here as we walk up and down the aisles is plant-based everything is where it’s at people are now starting to recognize the abuses that exist in animal agriculture not only to animals but to workers to rural communities to the environment you know you look at the role of animal agriculture and climate change and antibiotic resistant and rainforest deforestation and ocean acidification so many things converge around the same intersection of what we put in our mouths every day but then everything went a step further when it was revealed that another product called clean meat could be brought to market by the end of 2018 what you’re seeing on your screen may like ground chuck but no animal was harmed making it instead this beep was grown from animal cells the results meet without the animal antibiotics or waste there’s a whole host of startups that are racing to commercialize the world’s first-ever meat and milk and eggs and leather and other animal products that as you correctly point out are grown from animal cells rather than from animal slaughter so go into a little more detail about how that is done so imagine taking a tiny sesame seed sized biopsy from an animal’s muscle tissue you put that biopsy inside of a cultivator where those cells which would grow into muscle inside of the animal’s body think they are still inside the body and then they grow into muscle exactly as they would in the animal’s body outside of the body and what that gives us the chance to do is to produce real meat that is much safer to eat and takes far fewer resources if meat boxes had been scared before now they had a real reason to be as a powerful vision was being created of a confinement and slaughter free world and the conversation around what the future of meat looked like reignited in an unprecedented way when we have a burger we have a piece of chicken or we have duck today the idea of eating meat and eating animal is one in the same tomorrow I think those two ideas will be separated we can eat meat we can eat all the meat that we want but it won’t require the slaughter or the confinement of an animal as clean meat gained widespread attention and funding the effect on meat industry representatives that rely on breeding and killing animals for profit became visible I’m not quite sure what it is and I’m not quite sure how it’s derived but I’d call it fake food you know when somebody’s been following a certain tradition for a long time they feel a threat by new people coming in who may also question the traditional ways in which they bought there’s a lot of guardianship of different categories of jobs and there’s often resistance I don’t believe it is meat but if if they call it meat then then how would they differentiate it and all of a sudden this new group comes in and they just want to call their product beef and right on our coattails and I think that’s wrong the US Cattlemen’s Association a trade group made up of 10,000 ranchers was one of the loudest detractors u.s. Cattlemen’s Association filed a petition last month with the Department of Agriculture it argues lab-grown and plant-based products should not use the terms meat or beef on their labels the United States Cattlemen’s Association is now petitioning the country’s Department of Agriculture to define meat is coming from the flesh of an animal slaughtered in the traditional way we don’t agree with the term clean meat that implies that traditional ranching is dirty the biggest concern is that it implies real meat is somehow dirty politics and corporate greed they go hand in hand do not believe the labels and the lies and the adverts and the propaganda and the scams are these industries we are approaching the tipping point we have the momentum but the other side is fighting back every action has an equal and opposite reaction animal rights groups have been exposing shocking videos of inhumane conditions at factory farms I am an undercover investigator and I have never gone into an operation that we’ve targeted and seen happy animals it’s institutionalized torture on a scale that we’ve never seen before in the history of humankind time and again our undercover investigations behind these closed doors of the meat milk and dairy industries are revealing systemic animal suffering I defy any person here anyone yeah to look at the images of those animals and say that this suffering is ok it’s not it is unacceptable but what we’re doing is unspeakable it’s despicable and it’s ignorant and I see a clear change a change is going to happen very soon I can see it as information around the impact of animal agriculture was disseminated worldwide companies began to accept the inevitable fate of the growing plant-based sector the future looks really really bright for plant-based and it’s being recognized by leaders in the industry not only the plant base but even but companies big meat companies like Tyson that are invest and plant-based the more insightful meat bosses had already started investing in alternative protein with Tyson president Tom Hayes saying if you can’t beat him join him before investing in clean meat company Memphis meets Canadian conglomerate Maple Leaf Foods bought vegan brand filled roast and German poultry company phw backed vegan seafood and as 2018 progressed investment funds took notice and transferred significant capital into the meat analog industry however it was one business man that really stood out Jeremy Collard one of the most influential businessman in financial equity founded the fair initiative an anti factory farming investor group with assets worth over 8 trillion dollars which included Swiss banking giant UBS as well as injecting large quantities of wealth into the plant-based sector this group also encouraged supermarkets to offer more plant-based options and lobbied for a meat tax farm animal investment risk and return initiative says that a tax on meat is inevitable we’re not talking about PETA here or some lobby group this is a this is a influential group while some sort of meat tax is the answer to a number of environmental issues others laughed at the idea you hear environmentalists are pushing for attacks on me claiming hamburger steaks and other delicious delectables are harmful to the environment the media are up there as guilty parties with the oil industry with the coal industry and they stop us from thinking they stop us from questioning they stop us from recognizing where we stand with respect to our multiple predicaments and in so doing they perform a grave disservice what they do is what I call fake environmentalism they tell people to change their lightbulbs and drive an electric car but they’re not telling them to do the most important thing if you’re an environmentalist which is give up meat and dairy and switch to a plant-based diet while the mainstream media stuck to the traditional narrative social media was used any good movement that is successful as those extreme people it also has a softer people try and get people to grow any number of celebrities started speaking out why the mission here’s why I’m tired of being pimped by food companies and then eating bad poisonous food and then feeling horrible in the morning and then working working working and not taking care of my body that’s why innovative chefs started actively casting off the limitations of traditional cuisine offering mainstream audiences vegan food here break it down the British plant-based chefs and authors of the new cookbook Bosch Henry Furth and ENFP speak we’ve got three vegan chefs and they’ve all prepared some of your favorite dishes a daughter kabob and a pizza yeah mac and cheese for anybody that’s out there and they’re thinking like they want to change the life and they want to go plant base and they just think they can’t do it I just want people to understand that like no matter what your tradition is you can make a new one you know I’m saying like the same traditions and the same laws that you follow somebody thought that up it wasn’t like it wasn’t like some God came on the earth wrote this on the tablet it was like that’s how we have to do it and that’s it if you see something’s wrong and you see something feels better go for what feels better and the good news is there’s a convergence of forces that after four decades you know finally makes this the right idea at the right time and basically as I look around the table dr. Dotson no meat is that is that what I’m sensing here good concision I don’t know anything is in it Thanks you know we’ve been hearing so much about plant-based eating lately haven’t we right and I don’t know I’m a meat-eater but it gives you food for thought I think the most important message that I have is to remember that you and I’m speaking to you watching this film you make a difference you as an individual make a difference what you do each day actually is affecting what’s going on in the world each day so your life matters you matter and use your life work wisely we’re going to pack up I pack up all the sides pack up all the food pack up all the tables take it all to the car okay and about 15 minutes we’re gonna hang out any of the cars all right and then we’ll come back okay so then what they do well they probably will do is radio through to the trucks apparently there’s some trucks being held back then they’ll send them through and by that time we’ll be back here and yeah tricking they trick us we’ll trick them throughout 2018 an increasing number of people engaged in activism shining a light on standard practices within industry by either waiting outside slaughterhouses to bear witness to the animals facing death raiding slaughterhouses themselves making videos on the kill floor or partaking in cubes of truth NBC 6 anchor Trina Robinson joins us tonight with more on this new group that you may have seen in protests around the area Trina yeah the group is called anonymous for the voiceless they want people to think about the rights of animals and where their food comes from dairy found the right owner Terry Bob now can’t face the reality how can you morally justify pays for it difference in church what about the choice the animals the other preference to live that life you see we can eat other things it’s not a necessity for us to be animal products we can survive and thrive but a plant-based diet often what people mean when they say it’s their personal choice is that it’s a free choice they’re making and they’re not making their choices freely because without awareness there is no free choice and the vast majority of people are not aware of how they’ve been deeply conditioned knowledge is power and when we’re giving both sides the argument we can make a conscious decision based on how we truly feel about the situation it is so long we infect the same kind of propaganda you need me for protein you need and dairy cows milk for calcium but actually this isn’t true and when we can kind of level the playing field and put across what’s actually happening to animals the terrible suffering that they go through and the environmental damage that it causes to our whole planet I think when people have that power that more compels them power to make informed decisions I didn’t change until I truly knew the horrific nature of how these animals were treated and so what these activists are doing the only thing they’re doing is really journalism they’re they’re going and filming inside of these facilities as public awareness started to grow farmers found themselves under increasing pressure for then of course you did get death threats which was quite ironic coming from with one farmer Allison wall insinuating she had received death threats during a segment broadcast by the BBC she later clarified that she personally had not been the target of death threats but it was too late as a vaudeville of unsubstantiated accusations against vegans spread across the globe it was clear the media witch hunt had begun these guys are terrorists for the farming community they’re terrorists vegans are traveling down the path to radicalization they put my picture up with these claims without evidence or no me d-don’t to figure in the most cases it is peaceful and legal but farmers say they’re also facing regular harassment and abuse it’s summed up the strange mood of our time where even though veganism had never been more popular and initiatives like plant-based News’s world plant milk day reached record numbers vested interests impeded momentum it’s true that animal agriculture and many people within it are trying to hold on to the status quo and activists are up against an industry that makes billions even various social media platforms which had once been heralded as driving the Information Age were believed to be censoring environmental and vegan related pages and as this happened it left the public questioning institutions and corporations susceptibility to collude with the world’s most powerful industry do you know what is a multi-billion dollar Lobby the cheese Lobby has a multi-billion dollar Lobby the dairy industry the beef industry there’s also a gag laws that prevent people from filming agricultural gag laws that prevent people from filming on these factory farms because they don’t want people to know how horrific those conditions are that’s completely closed the meat industry you cannot see behind the curtain and you can’t even talk about it in certain states there’s laws where you’re not even allowed to talk about what goes on this is huge business and so there’s a lot of money being funneled into ensuring that we are deluded into this idea that these have a place on a healthy plate not only did the animal agriculture industry continue to siphon off tens of billions in the form of subsidies but there was more evidence of how federal agencies were working with the meat industry to intimidate activists and that’s why these corporations which control the government in control law enforcement are prosecuting them they’re punishing them in response to the journalism that they’re doing to chi’lan deter people from shining a light on what it is the fees that really goes on inside of American industrial farms and the horrific torture and suffering that animals endure in in in our name the meat industry invested in nitrate-free so-called healthy bacon and at a contentious move desperate meat bosses even licensed superhero images in an effort to peddle processed burgers and sausages to children the way advertisers subliminally equates mean eating and dairy consumption with values that we cherish is really sinister and it’s misleading they equate meat to masculinity they equate eating dairy to femininity they equate meat and dairy to upward mobility patriotism social status keeping up with the Joneses Family Values it has nothing to do with any of it in fact quite the contrary it’s hurting families it’s creating disease it’s a bad influence on our society so what they’re doing is really really morally wrong three major meat boards joined forces in a bid to push their products onto consumers whose data showed we’re starting to turn their backs on meat meat products are rapidly losing popularity right across Canada as many people are switching their diets to vegetarian or vegan in fact by the summer of 2018 it was revealed that the vegan sector had skyrocketed and growth of plant-based food sales were outpacing that of meat and dairy tenfold this story was being repeated in regular market forecasts which predicted even more growth saying the global plant milk market would exceed 21 billion dollars by 2024 this was helped by vegan milk brand to emblazoned major transport hubs and buildings with ads that said oat milk is like milk but made for humans a local group promoting veganism is using some bold imagery to get their point across [Music] as sales exceeded targets leaving shelves bare but the message amplified around the world resulting in pushback from the dairy industry well I got milk you may be one of the millions of Americans who prefer a plant-based substitute like almond milk or soy milk but the FDA is looking to change what those products are allowed to be called just the other week the FDA announced a proposed rule that would ban the use of the term milk for all non dairy products in similar fashion to the meat industry the dairy industry crackdown on the labeling of its plant-based counterparts but then took things further by firstly calling on the Canadian and US government’s might for financial assistance secondly branding anti milk posters a hate crime and thirdly funding research that produced headline-grabbing claims in an attempt to conceal the real impact of the dairy industry from the public you can’t hide the Sun you can’t hide the moon and you can’t hide the truth and the truth will come out [Music] I’m here so excited to be a part of this because I think this moment can be about so many different things and for me I want to bring a message which is veganism and that there doesn’t have to be torture and fabulous fashion throughout 2018 celebrities continue to share information about the benefits of a plant-based diet including Miley Cyrus Kings of Leon starred Jared Followill Alicia Silverstone Bryan Adams and Zac Efron iconic actor and activist Pamela Anderson said a vegan diet improved her sex life Chris Hemsworth credited the lifestyle for his muscular physique as did Jackass star steve-o and neo while other well-known personalities announced they had ditched animal products including Chris Packham Tom Ford Shaun King Ellie Goulding and Ellen Pompeo former cardiac surgeon and entertainer bassem youssef promoted the plant-based lifestyle to the Arab world and the diet even reverberating around royal families thankfully my passion and my field is not in finance or in or in Investment Banking but it’s in making the world better celebrities used their profiles to share an animal-rights message for example Alan Cumming actively campaigned against dairy Sopranos star Edie Falco protested the treatment of animals outside McDonald’s in Times Square Evanna Lynch spoke at London’s animal-rights March and Lewis Hamilton shared animal rights videos across social media I can’t imagine going back I think those things that I see my friends eating and I used to eat it and I’m like I feel sick to think what you’re putting in your body but it’s because now I’ve read about it and I understand I understand it I’ve read some of the science that’s been I don’t like it here even without me it is a diet trend growing in popularity with athletes and celebrities including of course Tom Brady Detroit Lions running back the or it ik and Red Wings player David Booth also following plant-based diets and you know who does as well Beyonce while Beyonce promoted a plant-based diet using social media other celebrities took to film to spread awareness the most notable being James Cameron who executive Li produced the game changes which Arnold Schwarzenegger artists Fortson ager one of the most recognizable figures and symbols of power is in this documentary so this is the best plant-based documentary in human history other films were announced many with high-profile casts including eating our way to extinction eating animals running for good taking note let us be heroes what you eat matters and cowspiracy sequels cease pharisee set to expose the fishing industry when we first embarked on this project we had no idea that we’re becoming across the levels of destruction that we have been we’re looking at be probably the most serious problem on the planet right now is diminishment of biodiversity especially in our ocean towards the end of 2018 the urgency around climate change made headlines there is a new report out about climate change and it is not positive to say the least and you’re gonna break it down for us yeah it’s not positive I mean it just keeps getting worse urgent transformational change that is the headline that is what we’re talking about that’s what needs to happen for us to really make a difference here and we’re not just talking on specifics we’re gonna nail down the numbers here because they got very specific in this report I’ve been reading through it a new study described as the most comprehensive of its kind added more weight to the discussion around the impacts of animal agriculture the UN branded meat the world’s most urgent problem and by the end of the year mankind’s effect on the planet was blamed for hurricane Florence which ravaged the east coast of America and highlighted the damaging consequences of industrial farming in the lead-up to the storm millions of animals were locked up and left to drown so that farmers could claim insurance a damning example of how animals are viewed as mere commodities over 99% of farmed animals lived on factory farms most of the population does not understand nor the abuse that goes on in these farms this was further highlighted in Dominion a cinematic expose of factory farming in Australia narrated by Kat Von D Sadie sink SIA Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara premiers of the movie sold out globally from the UK to China with Australian agricultural groups reportedly bracing themselves for a backlash it was clear the meat industry was growing weary of how the expose might affect its business as the Dominion movie kick-started a movement with thousands taking to the streets to protest the global exploitation of animals a powerful and stark vision started unfolding of the coming battle between two sides of history [Music] and animals in our society are the most vulnerable with that we have you know and you know if there’s anyone in this world that should be protecting the vulnerable it should be us guys you know we should be leading from the front and and you know I think that’s what being a real man is it’s not a bit you know doing all this macho shoot it’s actually about you know acknowledging what’s what’s true and being honest to that get back it’s like the stuff we’re doing to animals is so fucked like honestly it’s so fucked up when when you take a step back and look at what we’re doing [Music] just give me a sec every revolution starts with a whisper but the real change comes with the roar I fully expect to go to prison someday and I’m totally fine with that because I think it is the cost of creating change I think what Mahatma Gandhi said you can judge the society by the way it treats its animals that’s pretty reasonable observation from a very wise man so why don’t we get wise mean possible farmers transparent is anything but transparent the things that we do to animal in terms the mutilations are not transparent what happens in slaughterhouses is not transparent and even on a dairy farm things like male calves and femur caste was separated from their mothers many people don’t know about all the who do not know that this makes you feel stupid like oh let’s leave I feel stupid if I don’t look and see something’s wrong I don’t do the wrong and we keep continuing doing the wrong just because of horrible traditions because just in some tradition it doesn’t make it right you know for me it’s an ethical decision you know I don’t want to I don’t want to fuck with something that can’t defend itself none of us are trying to be horrible people we’ve just been brought into this world well we just all this fucked up shit has been seen oh there is no such thing as humane slaughter what to say I’m calling time on this industry I think time is well and surely passed make no mistake there is no happiness in the dairy industry if any other organism did this a biologist what corner the virus this is a big big leap this is the ultimate test for Humanity the Arctic Ocean is heating up at a much faster pace than the rest of the earth temperatures over parts of the Arctic will increase as much as 54 degrees Fahrenheit this month if there is a future for Humanity that future will not involve using animals for food veganism is the solution and it encompasses a much wider range of possibilities for happiness as a species than any other type of diet or life style you know if you really think about it veganism is the cheapest shit out there you can go get rice and beans every day and you’ll be satisfied that’s the Chivas that you can get it’s filling its nutritious it’s healthy it saves the environment and it’s ethical looking back at the last 12 months 2018 like last year showed significant progress in the way the mainstream started to adopt veganism major magazines repeatedly brought up veganism including the New Scientist and the FT weekend’s government institutions like the NHS began to acknowledge the benefits of a plant-based diets and companies like wework implemented major changes it was revealed this week the global office sharing company we work are going meat free organizations gave awards to vegan entrepreneurs including the World Economic Forum and the United Nations let’s start to take protein directly from plants and use science to design and implement that against the blueprint of meat honestly if I’m bein serious I wouldn’t be surprised if we say mmm I see massive shift in the next 10 to 15 years the quickest and easiest way for an individual to be to feel empowered and to make a difference and to be able to look at their face in the mirror in the morning I think I’m making a difference I’m doing something positive not just for myself my own health and my family’s health but for the health of the planet is to change how we eat veganism isn’t a pursuit for perfection it’s about living in a way where you can just try and cause the least amount of harm to the environments of animals veganism is no longer viewed as a fringe lifestyle choice it is a moral framework searing into the consciousness of huge numbers of people the question now is what will you bring to 2019 hi this is Klaus and I want to say big thank you for watching plant-based needs people like you who mean we can continue to create [UltraVid id=62 ]meet dr. noon s almond raw he only eats one vegan meal a day that’s right he’ll eats one hour a day proving if you eat healthy you will not lose muscle or lack energy he even set a world record in dead lifting but his goal is not bodybuilding or strength its anti-aging longevity and the highest quality of health and life we’re not telling people to eat only one meal a day but we are here to show you what’s possible with intermittent fasting and that we do not have to eat animal products in order to thrive only a handful of people on this planet have the determination to live this way but it’s amazing what happens when we do mankind is not supposed to have the health problems it does and what we call aging is not normal let the wise words of this master teach and lighten and inspire you hi thanks for being here today it is my pleasure so you only eat once a day that is so I saw the video you’re on the air every you were a dead lifting champion that is so I’m presently the world deadlift champion drug-free world deadlift champion in my particular class I hold on several world national regional Records cyclic fasting for instance is known to potently promote growth hormone release so throughout the duration of a daily fast your growth hormone concentration tends to increase if you combine that with resistance exercise in the evening as you probably know that increases testosterone production when you sleep that increases growth hormone production IGF production so we’re talking about anabolic hormones that essentially promote the preservation of muscle tissue so a regimen which entails daily cyclic fasting evening resistance training all of these things combined to enhance the preservation and also augmentation of muscle tissue so you’re saying somebody’s and 30s 40s and 50s to actually gain muscle if it is regimented if it combines these factors that is increased growth hormone secretion as a consequence of protracted fasting now you notice that working out late in the day is more beneficial than working out earlier in the day what does it matter it does matter and and that is because essentially you want to enhance autophagy throughout the day you want to be catabolism your proteins you want to be catabolism stored sugar and stored body fat but in the evening you actually want to suppress autophagy in order to promote that preservation of muscle tissue so it is resistance training that stimulates your skeletal muscle that provides those metabolic factors that promote muscle retention so yes evening it’s best to do resistance exercise this is actually a good advice for even women they’re older postmenopausal women that who is working out your muscles is part of what keeps you young and do indeed you got to do weight training even if you’re an old lady you got to work here otherwise your bones go week everything starts falling apart it’s important what you’re saying is it helps keep you young this isn’t a vanity thing it’s part what needs to happen in your life indeed indeed and sarcopenia that is age-related muscle wasting muscle loss is a major of catalyst for premature mortality especially in women right they say that the older you get the more you lose muscle the more you lose your hormones the more you start slowly basically falling apart what you’re saying is you keep working out that doesn’t necessarily happen your case yes yes that is quite so you can definitely avert many of those changes and slow down that process so you found that you only have to sleep as much as the average person yes that was one of the first things that I observed I was able to do without as much sleep as I had previously and I was able to recuperate from exertion far more rapidly that I had been in the past I was simply interested intellectually in the pursuit of anti-aging studies anti senescence studies and as I began to discuss this with my then-girlfriend approximately 20 years ago she said this is interesting caloric restriction cyclic fasting specific nutriceuticals a refined diet all of these things clearly demonstrably scientifically contribute to lifespan extension and I explained how I was going to commence collecting data writing a book and she said she’s not my wife by the way new net Munro why don’t we do it and it took some time to reflect on that and I said well why not and that was about a decade and a half ago and through a few evolutions if you will we’ve been on the almond regimen for approximately 15 years without fail it entails a daily fast of 23 hours in duration caloric restriction that is we consume approximately 1,000 to 1,500 calories a day it entails specific nutraceuticals that is nutraceuticals that have been found to increase maximum lifespan in one or more organisms it entails daily exercise it entails meditation ascesis and basically that is the almond regimen qualitatively the diet is devoid of meat and centers on specific staples if you will basically nuts grains tubers dried fruit we always eat in the evening we consume our evening meal our main meal after our evening resistance regimen our exercise is typically organized in such a way that in the morning we engage in so-called persistence exercise what you might call aerobics in the afternoon that’s typically another aerobic session time permitting and in the evening is the resistance exercise session and this can entail a number of different standard conventional weight lifting exercise with integrated weighted yoga postures in between sets and after this evening resistance session is meditation or final meditation session because meditation is interspersed throughout the day we meditate in two different postures and one of those postures I can demonstrate to you briefly this posture is called a rule AHA that is standing home and this is the posture that I typically assume in my brief of periods of meditation say 10 to 15 minutes Aroo AHA is a composite Egyptian term and it means again standing form the ultimate intent of all minimalist meditation is to progressively produce a state of sustained tranquility where ideas images emotions are expedited from the mind there are essentially 10 domains of interventional studies what I call the two tractus of anti-aging interventions several of fundamental they include caloric restriction cyclic fasting and specific nutraceuticals and a range of discrete genetic modifications that alter specific physiological phenomena in organisms almost all of them will entail either an increase in the optimization of autophagy and that is simply a process that enables the body to renew its tissues glycation is an important phenomenon glycation is that process whereby circulating sugars bind to protein lipids in the body and render them resistant to renewal that accelerates aging you also have fat accumulation or adiposity that has been found to increase the rate of Aging and limit lifespan but more specifically it’s been found that the extra patient of adipose the diminution of adiposity increases maximum lifespan in mammals and other organisms people you say there’s no way you can have that kind of muscle and not eat for 23 hours a day maybe it’s I know the body’s more efficient but people are going to say well doesn’t your bodies are eating up the muscle after a while actually limited muscle catabolism is a good thing limited tissue catabolism is a good thing and it might be illuminating to conceive of it in this way the vast majority of the solid component of your body consists of proteins and each of those proteins that constitute our proteome so to speak have a definite life span and the integrity in health of your body is largely dictated by the integrity of your individual proteins so if you are able to prevent damage to the corpus of proteins that constitute your body or increase the rapidity with which you renew and recycle proteins you are functionally physiologically younger there are a lot of people I’d say because it used to be protein protein protein what are you getting your protein Gatti animals nowadays the big thing is where you get your sugars like the body needs to have sugar to run on sugars the body’s fuel if you don’t put sugar in your body carbs all day long it’s gonna you’re gonna basically waste away wait what do you think of that well there’s a fascinating body of research which indicates that the process of glycation is integral to aging and glycation is that process whereby simple sugars illicitly bind to the body’s proteins and render them resistant to that process of renewal and this has been found to greatly accelerate aging that’s one aspect of it the other aspect is that when scientists have subjected animals to a low glycotoxins ayat’ that is a diet that is low in so-called advanced glycation in products this independently increases lifespan so you have a concomitant effect if you reduce the endogenous generation of glycation products and of course the best way to do that is simply to reduce your circulating sugar concentration to the lowest extent practicable and you avoid or reduce your assimilation of exogenous advanced glycation in products which are created upon cooking and our extent in various foods whether cooked or not you can increase lifespan through this Avenue of glycation restriction and this is one of those interventions that are included in the so called detractors of anti-aging interventions that is glycation diminution and this points to the fundamental importance of cyclic fasting as an avenue of lifespan prolongation because it is cyclic fasting that most potently suppresses the concentration of circulating sugar the lower the concentration of circulating sugar in your body the less sugar you have to attack your body’s tissues and to render them dysfunctional if you will where you say you get your energy family if your glucose levels and alone oh that’s an interesting question most individuals have an appreciable amount of energy stored in adipose and this points to another element of the detractors of anti-aging interventions and it’s that if animals are rendered lean through either surgical expectation of adipose tissue targeted genetic interventions which decrease adiposity that increases lifespan independently so in a convoluted way what I’m saying is that when you don’t consume exogenous sugar you make use of that stored adipose and that extra patient of adipose independently promotes longevity obviously you can get energy out of fat but you don’t have a lot of fat on you so where do you get your energy from I like your question because that points to the third Avenue which is autophagy when you deplete your glycogen largely from your liver and your skeletal muscle and again the morning aerobic exercise stimulates that and you have a low content of adipose tissue your body makes use of stored proteins it Khattab eliza’s all of your body’s proteinaceous tissues and recycles them as substrates for energy and that autophagy conduction of energy metabolism if you will contributes to lifespan prolongation by renewing proteins more rapidly under sustained caloric restriction or cyclic fasting skeletal muscle is preferentially preserved and there are more labile proteins that are catabolized before protein and before brain tissue so these are selectively preserved so ok let’s talk about your your diet so here you eat a lot of nuts and visit roots start just things like that yes grains grains really all this within an hour yes or less skills we have our tripartite meal if you will and by tripartite I mean that the first thing we consume when we break are 23 plus hour fast is what I call the almond amino elixir consisting of three protein sources soy spirulina brewers yeast and ideally a dozen isolated amino acids and the next thing we consume is the main meal one of those staples of which I mentioned earlier these typically include beans and rice um typically we have one of three beings cannellini beans is my favorite the red kidney beans and when I say bean this is the common bean phaseolus vulgaris and then many different cultivars but one of the main reasons that we select the bean as an optimal staple if you will is because there are many properties associated with the common being that accord with lifespan extension and these include inhibiting the enzyme alpha-glucosidase which promotes optimal glycemia if you will these are called a fiber which really helps that sugar levels and you don’t get rid of toxins it’s great tindy probably not the best cook foods you have if you don’t go with cookies is great okay go I’m sorry wrong no no yes roots tubers rice grain and nuts and seeds fruit and fresh vegetation is not high on our list of staples and that’s simply because the cellulose and the water content take up space if you will so if you have a regimen where you’re constricting restricting your feeding to an hour or less and you consume foods that occupy a large volume have a higher water content indigestible fiber over time that can reduce your sense of satiation so you want to have nutritionally dense foods in order to essentially derive the most nutrients in a minimal amount of time right you wanna drink a Surrey and then there is the minor meal and the minor meal is nothing more than a dessert typically nuts dried fruit often what you might call peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or peanut butter and Nestle bot sandwiches which roughly means royal jelly that’s one of the staples of our minor meal and I say peanut butter and jelly with some reluctance because it differs a bit from what you might find in a typical grocery store it simply crudely crushed peanuts and fruit preserves on bread that’s a typical dessert a typical dessert may also be roasted peanuts with dark chocolate I’m glad you said peanut bars I love Hannah butter and everybody says peanuts our dad’s got the toxins in it after Lou Thompson toxin air that is why roasted peanuts are actually preferential in our ethos if you will um because if you consume raw peanuts or germinated or so peanuts it promotes that growth of fungal organisms and aflatoxins but um just to give an indication of the scientific basis there is an entire tract taped with several sections that discuss multifarious epidemiological and interventional studies which find a relationship between longevity and nut consumption and peanuts are particularly prominent in those studies that is it’s been found that consumption of peanuts of quartz with lifespan the particular variety is simply crushed um crunchy peanuts with little added salt no other ingredients pie is almost all he averaged over there palm oil sugar the sugar and all that that’s why I’m sometimes reluctant to call it peanut butter because of the confusion that is essentially the almond meal the tripartite almond meal throughout the 23 hour fast we typically consume teas in herbal infusions of various sorts these include green tea black tea oolong tea but also two of the South African teas honey bush and red tea or rooibos hibiscus one of my favorites rhubarb tea and any number of herbal infusions most of which have been found to influence one of these several physiological factors that we know are operative in the aging process and those again include autophagy optimization glycation inhibition fat oxidation diminution of inflammation etc so when you say nutriceuticals that sounds like something from the pharmaceutical industry you’re talking about herbs and natural things that’s quite correct there several of these one is niacin bound chromium another is glucosamine another is curcumin or turmeric another is resveratrol and combined with cyclic or intimate and fasting the polyphenols that you find in green tea in blueberries and in pomegranates so when we speak of nutraceuticals we’re talking about these agents and physiologically all of these nutriceuticals have been found to modulate one of several molecular mechanisms and again we have our familiar glycation autophagy induction immune enhancement and lipid oxidation or minimization and you take these throughout the day as stand with your teas and wired stuff yes yes the tea’s that we consume when they are sweetened they’re sweetened with non calorific sweeteners such as stevia which is essentially the sole sweetener that I use during my fasting period so your stomach yeah sorry not at all it’s a good sign no this is actually a good comparison here you haven’t eaten in a while your stomachs growling he hasn’t eaten since yesterday and he’s still fine my accessory yeah well that sucks boy excellent and actually that effect is partly attributable to a peptide called ghrelin and it is released by the gastrointestinal tract in response to food deprivation it actually increases the expression of a peptide called BDNF brain-derived nerve growth factor which increases the proliferation of neurons in the brain specifically in the hippocampus an area that’s associated with learning and memory and that is probably among the reasons that fasting and caloric restriction increase mental or cognitive acuity so this might explain people in India there mainly are vegetarians and they don’t eat a lot but yet they have some of the smartest people in the world I can like literally like calculate to the 100th decimal point and these people that then say you need me you need animal products you need fat you need sugary all that stuff tin to function properly you got it dialed in to the point where you’re you’re proving you need any help products I’m somewhat conventional and that I promote the ingestion the use of essential multi-mineral multivitamin supplementation and whenever someone subsists on a calorically restricted diet either quantitatively restricted or temporally restricted it’s important to ensure that you get the minimal requisite amount of essential nutrients right and that’s what I get from a standard vegetal micronutrient micro minimal mineral supplement I take that in powdered form in the almond amino elixir and it’s the first thing that we consume on an empty stomach and that’s designed essentially to be sufficient as a source of energy and nutrients without the need for any food at all so the elixir is intended to deliver all essential nutrients in a form that is easy to assimilate and the meals are simply for satiety and indulgence because I think that’s an important point to stress if you’re going to have a lifelong regimen that is predicated upon lifespan prolongation it has to be sufficiently palatable in order to be sustained over a lifetime and indulgence gratification is an important element of enjoying life and we do find that our diet is very palatable very enjoyable even with the perceived monotony we loved in it feeding time is always festive it’s always a feast if you will what the research indicates is that both cyclic fasting and caloric restriction greatly increased energetic efficiency such that organisms can make do with less all of their physical cool systems become more efficient and they’re able to effectuate their physiological operations with far less energy and that reduced energetic demand actually results in a lessened generation of those deleterious byproducts of metabolism free radicals for instance advanced glycation in products so with a reduction in metabolism you get a concomitant reduction in waste products and other deleterious agents that damage the body so the less waste products that your body has to deal with the more clean areas more efficient it is indeed being clean is almost more important than massive amounts of fuel just being guzzle down indeed another effect that has been observed widely on caloric restriction cyclic fasting and other interventions that increase lifespan is a decrease detoxification capacity and more specifically an Augmented expression of so-called Phase two enzymes or xenobiotic enzymes and these are enzymes that are specifically expressed in the liver also kidney and other tissues that essentially convert toxins in such a way that enables them to be expiated from the body more efficiently so this is thought to be a major factor in the lengthening of life’s been associated with fasting and caloric restriction so the L of the organs that help eliminate toxins from the body the liver the kidneys if they’re cleaner they can focus more on producing enzymes and keeping you running optimally rather than just cleaning the house and getting rid of unwanted garbage indeed and also as we discussed together we are exposed to multi Farias toxins that we can do little as individual to avoid in our modern environment so to the extent to which we can augment our detoxification capacity we can protect ourselves from some of these toxins that would otherwise be ubiquitous that are ubiquitous and we simply can’t avoid right the toxins in the air the water even the negative people it just drains us our life works and dude so the cleaner we are mentally physically and emotionally the better we can thrive as long living healthy beings indeed but I must interject an element of my philosophy and that is I wholly accept the inevitability of Aging I wholly accept the inevitability of death and my regimen is simply predicated upon postponing that process to the greatest extent prime having a high quality of life indeed which is much below the last 40 years they’re just falling apart yeah explaining about the other people yeah and it’s important to have sufficient energy mentally and physically in order to arrive at the psychological philosophical existential state that you wish to attain before that ultimate end you have a website you want it I mean these I want to know more advice blog where do I go you can go to our website almond car elite athlete calm and it has a description of my overall regimen on the literature that I’ve produced and how to acquire it I don’t sell my materials I release them with a donation to individuals who are earnestly interested and I stress that because our order our regimen is ascetic and it’s clearly not for everyone so I’m interested in individuals who serious right there’s a lot of people can say this can be something that takes I get bigger muscles are live longer or not get sick right there is no quick answer you have to this has to be a lifestyle a way of living a being and all-encompassing lifelong protocols right right so folks this bought of this this is not for most of you who want a quick fix for something this is a dedication to a life of way of living Wilson yeah well thank you for your time and you’re quite an inspiration and hopefully we’ll check in again in a while and any last words of advice for people living the modern world we’re kind of like ready to throw their arms in the air and say I how I I give up I don’t know what to do subjecting yourself to self-imposed discipline is the surest way to increase the quality of your existence period great thank you you’re quite well wow what a video huh I’m gonna summarize the important parts for you guys you weren’t paying attention because there’s some really important points to be made here first of all we’re not telling you guys to only eat one meal a day this is an extreme diet it’s only for a few people in the world who willing to dedicate their lives to this but what we are trying to do is show you a that you will not waste away if you fast daily that you know 60 eats one meal a day I’m telling people to only fast for 16 hours a day and eat for 8 hours so there’s really an you don’t have the animal products in order to have muscles notice he also said sugar ages did he catch that part he does aerobics several times a day and he does weight-bearing exercises at night aerobics cardio and weight exercises are not the same thing okay you got to move your body notice he did a lot of standing during the day standing versus sitting so we intermittent fasting standing him versus sitting and he when he eats his meal the reason he has heavy things like beans and rice and peanut butter things like that is because he needs to feel full he wants to enjoy his meal he said that he gets his nutrition before he has his meal from a plant-based supplement kind of like my green formula we have all your minerals and vitamins and phytonutrients and he has some amino acids just like my protein formula and then he has his meal to feel full and then he has his dessert to feel good so he gets the pleasure out of meetings not denying himself anything so it is he very similar to could tell more Berg in Norway that got the wheelchair guy who healed himself and walked 600 kilometers across Norway eating nothing but my green formula and protein formula and having some cashews and coconut oil to feel full very similar to what mom and rod is doing he has his nutritional supplement and then he has his heavier nuts and things which you can also get some protein and substance from so this is really inspiring notice he also said no stress really important because you will age and die if you have stress in your life so do what you can get the important bits of information from this because this is gold this guy’s taking it to the extreme and to show you what’s possible you will not waste away if you fast every day ok this guy’s only needing one meal a day we’re not even telling you to do that you can eat you can have a bunch of meals during the day but fast eat good things stay close to nature I hope this inspired you guys stay tuned for more at Marcos INSCOM to learn more study or contact dr. Nuno Monroe his website is almond TA elite athlete calm that’s am en tal ite athlete calm this is Marcus with Marcos news calm we hope this inspired you

[UltraVid id=44 ]Hey everyone Josh Baldwin hila G can fit I’m excited to share with you guys my list for the top 13 vegan athletes now obviously there are a ton of really talented plant-based athletes out there but I put this list together to show vegan athletes who are at the top of their sport so not only are all these vegan athletes competing in these grueling sports but they’re actually thriving and many of them are at the absolute top of the sport let’s get right to the list with two of the most impressive athletes and ones that you guys will all know and Serena and Venus Williams they went vegan in 2011 and of course they were successful before this but they’ve been able to stay at the top of the sport at ages 36 and 37 in fact they were the top two players in this year’s Australian Open beating out their much younger and non vegan competitors Venus whose battle with an autoimmune disorder led her to veganism said it definitely changed my whole life it changed the pace I live at you changed everything next up we got the beast Patrick Bablu Mian now a lot of you guys may have seen him on strength Wars and all over YouTube he’s got a great channel as well this German strongman set the world beer keg lifting record and the 20 kilogram front hold record but most impressively he holds the world record for the most weight ever carried by human at twelve hundred and thirty-four pounds which he said at age 37 Patrick said about going vegan I got heavier I got stronger I won the European Championship title and powerlifting I broke three world records so everything was going perfect my blood pressure went down and my recovery time was so much faster so I could train more next up we’ve got jermain defoe who’s one of the top Premier League forward at age 34 he was looking for a way to prolong his career and he hasn’t missed a beat he’s credited his recent switch to a vegan diet as being partly behind his continued excellence at the top level at age 36 Nate and Nick Diaz are a pair of talented MMA fighters both fighters follow a mostly raw vegan diet neither fighter was really ever at the top of the sport but to my surprise as an MMA and Nick was able to beat Conor McGregor just last year at age 32 Scott Jurek is one of the most dominant ultra marathon runners in the world he held the u.s. record for distance run in 24 hours which was 165 miles from 2010 to 2012 he’s been a vegan since 1997 and he’s considered by many to be the greatest ultra runner of all time Scott noted that since going vegan in regards to competing and training I noticed my recovery time that’s shortened that I was less injury prone and had a higher level of energy now everyone knows Carl Lewis is one of the greatest Olympians of all time but what a lot of people don’t know is that in his prime and of course now he was a vegan with nine Olympic gold medals he also set a world record for indoor long jump set in 1984 that still stands Carl adopted a vegan diet to his system in sports and continued it into his retirement in regards to veganism Carl stated I found that a person does not need protein for me to be a successful athlete in fact my best year of track competition was the first year I ate a vegan diet moreover by continuing to eat a vegan diet my weight is under control I like the way I look next up is David Meyer who was a Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor his competition achievements include two World Championship gold medals for American national goals an American Open gold and two Pan American goals among many others all of these were achieved as a vegan and David has been a vegan since 2000 he once said I have experienced that it’s an extremely healthy way to eat it gives me more energy it’s better for the environment I’m morally committed to not harming animals then we have the freerunning ninja Timothy sheep he’s won dozens of freerunning competitions it holds a record on Ninja Warrior Stage one by finishing in just 62 seconds that’s ten seconds faster than the previous record Tim said to think that 5% more strength is worth the death and enslavement of hundreds is ego at his finest work but actually feels stronger and more efficient anyway Tia Blanco is an American pro surfer a dedicated vegan and yogi she won gold during the women’s final of the 2015 is a World Surfing Games in regards to her diet Tia said I feel really great eating a plant-based diet and love the way it makes me feel physically and mentally many of us know the effects of diet on one’s health but fail to realize that diet plays a huge role in more than just your personal well-being I love animals too much to contribute to suffering next up is Lewis Hamilton who’s a four-time Formula One world champion Hamilton just recently won his fourth title after adopting a vegan diet earlier in the year Hamilton said as the human race what we are doing to the world the pollution coming from the amount of cows that are being produced is incredible the cruelty is horrible and I don’t want to support that Marie Rose was an Australian swimmer who won four gold medals in the 1956 and 1960 Olympics Maria was a lifelong vegan who set 15 World Records in his sport and he attributed much of his success to his vegan diet which was an extremely unusual choice for the time he was really the first great athlete to prove that a plant-based diet won’t stop you from becoming a top level athlete and in fact will most likely make you even better David Haye is a British boxer with world titles in two weight categories they researched the benefits of a plant-based diet on healing race and recovery time after a serious shoulder injury prompted surgery and many he had to take a break from the ring hey says apes are 20 times stronger than humans and they don’t rely on a meat-based diet they eat plants all day long it’s a myth that you need to eat meat for strength I think says David Haye that I’m now fitter than I’ve ever been I punch harder than ever I’m more determined and I’m faster last but definitely not least is Kendrick Farris who’s an American Olympic weightlifter and the only American to compete in weightlifting at the 2016 Olympics Ferris went vegan in 2014 and says that we shouldn’t get so caught up with protein protein protein because you can get an excess of protein and most of it just gets passed or your body now my body recovers a lot faster I feel lighter my mind is a lot more clear I feel I can focus a lot better that focus helped him set a u.s. record of a combined 377 kilograms at the Olympic Trials in May with a 209 kilogram clean-and-jerk and 168 kilogram snatch so I hope this list really shows everyone out there that you can absolutely be at the top of your sport on a plant-based diet not only will you most likely be fast and stronger and better at your sport but you can live with a clean conscience knowing you’re not contributing to the suffering of animals you’re helping the environment and then as a bonus there you’re gonna actually be better at your sport a little longer and happier life and overall you’re just gonna feel so much better for all of my already converted vegans out there my goal of this video is to give you guys a really solid argument for veganism so when you’re out there talking to people and they say well you couldn’t possibly be strong or fast or whatever it may be on a vegan diet you can have these people as examples because a lot of people really don’t know this stuff most people out there I find know a few of these small things maybe they know about the Williams sisters or a few of these athletes but they don’t know that there’s strongmen they don’t know that there’s weight lifters they don’t know a lot of these athletes out there that are completely defying all these stereotypes about vegans so if you guys liked this video please hit the like button share the video subscribe to the channel and I’ll see you at the next one [Music]
[UltraVid id=40 ]In the UK alone there are over half a million people who have decided to live a vegan lifestyle. This involves not eating dairy or meat and instead opting for plant based food. However, across the globe, humans eat a staggering amount of meat and all these animals need land to graze, food to eat and are responsible for the production of methane which excelarates climate change. What would happen if everyone in the world became vegan?
[UltraVid id=29 ]Talk about British football culture an environmental conscientiousness probably isn’t the first trait that springs to mind but try telling that to Forest Green Rovers the aptly named Club has been based in a tiny English village for a hundred and twenty nine years for the last eight they’ve been owned by wind power tycoon Dale Vince who also owns a multi-million dollar green energy company eco tricity with his investment the Rovers have won a place in England’s professional leagues for the first time they’ve also become the greenest sports team in the world and they’re completely vegan every year we reckon about 20% of all of the electricity we use comes from our own solar panels and the rest we bring in from the grid using our own windmills and solar panels in other parts of the country so we’re on absent powered by green electricity and about 20% of it is made here on-site well I would occasionally call myself a hippie I would say more than anything else if you’re looking for a label I’m an environmentalist sometimes people call me a businessman Erdem like that I think they’re smartly insulting we’ve got a series of drains dug across the pitch and we collect the water that flows on it and we pump it up into a big tank up in the corner there and put it back on the pitch lasers like a you know motorcycle one of the things we’ve done is to take the club vegan and we are described often as the world’s first or any vegan Football Club and we did it for the environment reasons primarily but of course there are human health reasons and animal welfare issues behind to drive to veganism as well and and I personally support all of those first thing you did was stop the serving and red meat and that went down you could say like a lead balloon with some people it was it was a bit shocking bit controversial media called a red meat ban to our players we said look this is a performance issue serious athletes then he read me and they took that on board we’ve done really well last season and we’re on you can diet around the club so this year is all about staying in the league and we’re doing a face over when you first sign here you hear a lot of things about the club and how its run takes you a while to get used to X is completely different to any other football club but when you’re here you really take it on board and you really understand what he’s trying to do at the end of the day they’re trying to save the world two seasons ago now we just took the cows milk away you know and it was a little bit hard for a couple of people you know what are we gonna do you know but you know push comes to shove I say we’ll look to have a beer you know are you trying to steal my limelight have you put the timer on fantastic so what we got here katsu curry pickled vegetables and pickled ginger it’s not typical football food and actually there were there was some resistance and naturally it’s changed but sales have gone up people have realized actually they’re not being punished you don’t get punished good for you given food it’s actually a celebration of what we’ve got look at the size that fire out there you don’t need four is green hungry well I think the classic stereotype of a football fan in England is it’s going to be somebody that doesn’t eat healthy food perhaps isn’t the most progressive in their outlook I don’t think it’s actually holds to like most stereotypes and if you look at our fans talk to our fans you find it actually once they’re introduced to these ideas around the environment they’re very keen to pick them up and run with them which is what our fans have been doing oh it’s great because we’ve been coming up about three or four seasons now and all of a sudden people know us for the vegetarian cycling the club so it’s great for us club this more to be talked about around the world is brilliant football has given us a massive platform and dreamt of really to talk to people all around the world we’ve got fan clubs springing up in so many different countries of the world is quite incredible and these are people that aren’t necessarily football fans but they are people that are concerned by the environment and are adopting for our screen as a football club because what we stand for off the pitch [Applause] you you
[UltraVid id=30 ]More important is the time that I’m having while I’m training in the actual fight you know the fight is just a result upon my training was and how I’ll prepare that way so if you put too much pressure on the result and you have an attachment to the result then you’re always waiting for that moment you don’t enjoy everything that happens up until that moment flights gonna happen on that day when that day comes I’ll get my adrenaline going but I’m not going to get my adrenaline going today over that let’s start from closed guard today if you open the legs keep going if you get to half guard keep going into a full pass if the guy turns to his knees the guys I hear boom it turns to his knees keep going until it’s a full pass if he gets both hooks then you stop all right if you sweep or submit you stop all right let’s go my name is Kron Gracie I was born in Rio de Janeiro Brazil I’ve been competing which it’s my whole life teaching my whole life more recently like the past five years I’ve been focusing on MMA Jiu Jitsu is the biggest foundation for fighting I think if you don’t know jiu-jitsu it’s gonna have a hard time to get into a real fight with somebody because the fight is most likely going to end up on the ground at some point so I think jiu-jitsu is the most valuable martial artist I’ve been teaching introduced my whole life I spent a lot of time building this gym spending a lot of time building my jiu-jitsu spend a lot of time building my students good job guys good morning everybody are you guys ready for some apple cider vinegar shots for what if I cannot do this first helps flush out my body of my system first and then I’ll have like either your water or lemon water at least just water for me I like to stay light in the day and I get my body just enough of what it needs to get through that workout or through that next stage luckily Eggs Benedict right now or the big meal it’s going to slow me down I used to be able to eat anything and go train and do anything you know any 20 year old kid is going to be able to eat anything and perform still I’m going to be 28 so there’s only so long you can fight for if I’m like eating bad foods it’s really putting my body in danger it’s really putting it in risk I enjoy to eat healthy because I enjoy being able to train the way I train able to feel the way I feel and I’m supporting things that are good for the environment good for the world basically haven’t eaten a year I eat fish and I don’t need too much dairy I don’t drink milk I don’t eat that much gluten it just kind of happened slowly you know it took a long time for me to be able to really believe and not being able to eat meat and still be a professional athlete I’ve been doing jiu-jitsu since basically before I can remember what is what I already was training with a little ghee on and a little yellow belt I started learning with my father and he learned with his father so we come from a very strong foundation of jiu-jitsu my grandfather was the Jiu Jitsu what Einstein is to mathematics you know he basically took Japanese Jitsu which was based on explosiveness and strength and started developing his own techniques his whole mission was to prove that jiu-jitsu was based on leverage and that a weaker man can beat a bigger man within a little bit of time he became the one who was the representor and like actually fighting and his brother kind of stepped inside and became the businessman and them together was real made the Gracie family one had 21 kids the other one had nine kids and they just basically created this army of little jiu-jitsu champions biggest martial arts family in the world and we’ve been representing for hundred years most people who even watch fighting don’t even know who the Gracie’s are it’s almost lost and your arm trying to make sure that the family name is kept alive [Music] you we’re in Santa Monica and we’re gonna run six miles to Venice pier and back you really don’t need that much food like if you’re eating like nutritious food with nutrients in small meals you can keep your energy level way higher have a better endurance have a better training have a better everything you know you live longer move faster and think better when you eat a lot of food it makes almost like slow I’ve eaten like that too and I eat like this and I’m able to perform way more and do more if I eat less and just see good food I [Music] train for triathlons to help me with fighting for me triathlon and running and biking and swimming is just fun and being out and just doing something different because I’ve been caged up in a gym with a bunch of men training sweating just grappling and punching that it’ll drive you crazy I’ve learned a lot of breathing from my father you know he from a little young age my dad you always was encouraging me to learn how to breathe and he always did diaphragm work and did a lot of movement with breathing and as I get older and older and older more difficult situations more mental stress more physical stress all these things start adding up and I kind of started to breathe more and I kind of restarted to notice that it was a big part of my life and a big part of my growth and my peace so I started to put more time into it and I’ve created my own like sequence of things I like to do in ways I like to breathe things that I think are important luckily I brought a a backup protein this is this plant-based protein I really enjoyed being like good news you know tired you know like II hydrated overworked broken down sore I really enjoyed those students vision makes me feel alive you know this is a bag of sport endurance gel just sugars and salts and potassium extra lights and stuff like that I try to be in touch with what’s coming in my body what’s going out of my body if I need energy how am I going to get it from Piper to awake how am I going to relax I’m just testing all these things out finding out what works for me what’s up and I have a number one piece and yeah yeah we’re going to do it all [Music] sometimes you don’t have it but today you have it the lentils right here and I’m gonna get the hummus too wherever there thank you this is ginger this is tumeric right and then you want to explain them what this is twelve complex with a little bit of an alkaline water the vitamin b12 that we use is derived by algae and easy to bring her everywhere she can explain everything so I don’t have to explain I’m not getting much of this right now I really feel like like this much of this and I can train for another like two hours three hours easy by now my priority isn’t eating my priority is training so I’m gonna eat what I need just to get me through the training after I’m done with all my workouts then I’ll just take time to eat and you gear up and get ready for the next day it’s six o’clock yeah I’m going to go to my house show there for a little bit and then we’ll go from there ah my personal masseuse I mean it’s not like an actual massage but it definitely helps makes me feel good like my body knows exactly when ten minutes is up I already know oh so I’m ready to minerals and this helps oxygenate your blood there’s no typical day for me you know every day is a little different I follow my intuition you know what I feel what feels right to me which was my body what feels good to my training that isn’t on a schedule except for it at 7 p.m. I got to be at the gym the last few years been kind of more focusing on my MMA I’ve been teaching less and focusing more on my progression and I have to put a lot of time into other things besides you Jitsu so I’ve been working my boxing in my judo kickboxing karate and my overall performance physically mentally and spiritually to reach these strong points in the fight after training you drink a lot of water and you drink a lot of liquids because I’m dehydrated I’m delusional because I didn’t drink a lot of liquids throughout the day so I’m first trying to get all my liquids in and then once that goes down I can eat [Music] it’s 10:30 right now it’s pretty early sometimes I only get out of training like I leave the gym at 11:00 or leave the gym at 12 thank you those are mice got a fight no no I was supposed to fight this month but we got pushed back to September can I have albacore sushi okay chrome grace hero a sweet shrimp and a baked crab hand roll avocado can I have a hug green tea and a Pellegrino yeah I was like man I like this roll we’re like a California roll with big scallops on top and they’re like but we don’t make that roll I was like can you make it for me and they’re like yeah and I’ve been coming here since I was like 12 years old so they just started making it for me and I’ve been trying to get him to put it on the menu but they just they’re like oh my god I guess I got to win a lot more fights when are we gonna get the Kron Gracie wrote on the menu that everybody wants to know only for me I’ll accept it hi it come race the road oh no very tasty good to get like a little light she she puts a lot of nutrients good protein and just good food if I were to try to eat like a big bowl of pasta or somewhere and I couldn’t do it this is baked crab with avocado to tell you truth right now I’m I’m already full I’m only eating this cuz I read or do I get pool quickly my first meal especially if it is close to training this is gonna pass and then I’m gonna get really hungry while you’re going to ask for all those calories that I burned see I’m still kind of full from all the drinks and all the training I’m still kind of tripping and stuff this is just for right now and then I’m going to eat at least at least one more time you know but once I’m done with my training now I forget about my training I try to forget about as much as that possible and I just hang out with my friends or hang out with myself or do my research or eat food relax this is the time I get to enjoy the day like really and I think life is about working hard then also getting to enjoy it and appreciate it and look back and I really absorb it for the next morning early I thought matinee Saturday matinee hello campus a pickup order please all right well gang it oh yeah can I get a breakfast burrito please with no meat and extra guacamole on the side Kron Carolyn see after training I could barely walk now I’m already like almost normal again until tomorrow morning then I won’t be room 11:40 yeah just getting home it’s early this is a really day for me so good about it it’s gonna be easier wake up tomorrow but I’ll still be up for at least 3-4 hours now I actually feel hungry before I was just eating just because it’s time to eat I’m gonna I was hungry too but but not definitely feel more hungry I feel like my body’s asking for what it’s just getting through all that water and all that that I drink I know that if I wanted to if I had to I could probably eat a lot and go work out and build train myself to do that but I just don’t feel like that’s necessary you know I feel like I like the way I do my thing [Music] people get comfortable in whatever they do I get comfortable when I’m in my gym I can be that all my students I’ve taught them everything they know and once I reach that comfort it’s not the most interesting thing for me because for me to really be able to improve and achieve things that are greater than me I have to put myself in an uncomfortable place that’s where I like to be you know so anything that makes me uncomfortable there’s going to benefit me from our mental of my physical I’m going to try to do you know I don’t really think of the famous what what I used to think it was you know I used to really want to be known for fighting and known to be the best in the world and I still want to be the best because I want to push myself to those limits but if I wasn’t going to push those limits with martial arts I would push those limits with other things you know whether it’s like environment for spirituality I still have it in the back of my mind that I have a bigger purpose and I don’t want to have any regrets with myself because I didn’t do what I felt was right and I feel like what I’m doing is right but I also feel like there’s a lot more to do in a global way so if I can use my fighting in my martial arts to help me achieve something better for the world that’s what I’m doing it for [Music]
