2019 Vegan Guide | Heard This? | 3 Simple Ways to Go Vegan Now!

Peace and infinit waters diving deep once again. beautiful deep divers we are out here in the heart of nature baby just woof breathing in that good ass Prada baby. it’s a sunny day and I’ve got a mango smile 7 day vegan challenge shout out to everybody who’s going vegan in 2019. To all of those of you, to all of those of you who are making that giant leap to go vegan, I’m proud of you and a lot of people always ask me what’s the three best ways to go vegan. I’ve been a vegan for over 14 years now. I’m not special, anybody can do this. Anybody can eat better and live better and feel better. Deep divers, did you know that over 150 billion animals are killed every single year ?Think of that while I tell you the three best ways to go vegan. The first way is what I call meatless Mondays and dairy-free Monday’s. Forget about doing it the whole week just focus on the meatless Monday say this Monday no more meat okay?
I know it’s gonna be hard because your mom’s steak is pretty good right? I know but it’s meatless Monday and it’s dairy-free Monday and what you’re gonna do is you’re gonna eat mock meat, you can eat seitan tempeh porn.
I love milk Ralph what are you gonna drink? Almond milk on that Monday, then also have more fruit and more veg and then as weeks past, you’re gonna do that on Tuesday, then on Wednesday, then on Thursday, then on Friday, then on Saturday, then on Sunday! Before you know it, you’ve done that for a whole week and then you continue doing that. The second best way to go vegan. How to transition to the plant-based diet is to research, read books like the China study by dr. Campbell which shows the benefits of the plant-based diet. But where am I gonna get my protein Ralph? Chia seeds a complete source of protein III live, has more protein than beef. So does spirulina. So there are plenty of plant-based sources of protein but also find out why you want to go vegan. I’m doing it because I sincerely love animals, not just the dog down the road or the cat down the road. I love all animals and we have to protect animals, what is the third simple step to go vegan. Surround yourself with other vegans, people who love food, plant-based foods. Get out there, start networking, go to vegan festivals, start to realize that being vegan gives you more energy. People are happier, less anxiety, I’m one of those people and then deep divers, well you just say feels so good to be a live baby. Can I get a hello beautiful deep divers? Would just yeah breathing in that good ass piranha baby, to all of you who are going vegan in 2019, congratulations and shout out to everybody who’s been getting the amazing good ass prana shirts at Ralph’s smart comm slash clothes check out the new deep divers on Amazon feel alive by Ralph smart, get more daily inspiration on Instagram at infinite waters deep divers go vegan have a beautiful day infinite waters diving deep once again stay well stay healthy, peace you, go vegan, even the cat down, even the cat down the road says that. Go vegan, live better, eat better, feel better, let’s get it deep divers.

My 16 Favourite Healthy Vegan Recipes

MY FAVOURITE OATMEAL RECIPES:
— Breakfasts: 1:16, Lunch: 4:16, Snacks: 7:13, Dinner: 9:06
__________________

RECIPES:

—– BREAKFAST —–
1. Stovetop Oats
Combine 3/4 cup rolled oats and 1.5 cups unsweetened almond milk in a small pot over high heat. When boiling, reduce heat to low and let simmer, stirring occasionally and watching to make sure it doesn’t boil over. Once thick, stir in 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 mashed banana. Remove from heat and serve with any toppings. My favourites are peanut butter, strawberries and banana.

2. Baked Oatmeal
Combine 1/2 cup oats, 1 mashed banana, cinnamon (optional), 1 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 cup almond milk. Place in a mini ramekin or other oven safe dish and bake for 25 minutes at 350F. Add any desired toppings, my favourites are strawberries and peanut butter with almond milk.

—– LUNCH —–
1. Lettuce Wraps
Take a piece of Romaine Lettuce (or any lettuce with a large, flexible leaf) and fill it with brown rice/quinoa, smoked tofu/veggie beef cooked in hoisin sauce, sautéed bell peppers/carrots/zucchini/or any vegetables, sautéed onions and mushrooms, avocado and salsa, nutritional yeast or vegan cheese, hot sauce, and anything else of your choice.

2. Avo-Tomato Sandwich
On two slices of bread/bagel, spread 1/2 a mashed avocado, a sprinkle of nutritional yeast and add some tomato slices. Optional things I like to add are spinach/lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, and ground flax seeds.

—– DINNER —–
1. Spaghetti and “Meat” Balls
Boil spaghetti pasta according to package instructions and set aside.
In a pot, steam chopped broccoli until tender. Saute mushrooms, onions, and any other desired vegetables until cooked. Separately bake/saute bought “meat” balls.
Optionally, you can bring saute all of this together in a large skillet with the tomato sauce to make a more uniform “meat” sauce, or it can just be dished into a bowl with the spaghetti with sauce over top.

2. Pesto Pasta
In a dry skillet over medium-high heat, toast 1/2 cup of pine nuts until golden brown. Set aside. In a food processor, process two bunches of cilantro and 4 cloves of garlic. Once mixed, add in your toasted pine nuts, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tbsp lemon juice, optional smoked paprika, and process until smooth. If it’s too dry, add in some olive oil or water until it reaches your desired consistency.
I love putting this over pasta (whole wheat, rice or zoodles) with avocado and nutritional yeast.

3. Veggie Burgers
Prepare patty’s according to package instructions, or make your own.
I like to eat mine on a toasted whole wheat bun with hummus, avocado, tomato, any other veggies (spinach, lettuce, sprouts, mushrooms, etc), and nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor.

4. Spring Rolls
Prepare angel hair or fettuccine rice noodles as per package instructions. Chop up bell pepper, cilantro, avocado, cucumber, mushrooms, smoked tofu, bean shoots, and shred some carrots. Soak your rice paper wrap in lukewarm water for about 10 seconds until soft, then fill with any fillings of your choice. Dip into peanut sauce.
Peanut Sauce Recipe:
In a food processor, process 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, 1/4 cup tamari (soy sauce), 1/4 cup water, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon hot sauce, 1 teaspoon sugar or other natural sweetener until smooth. Be sparse with soy sauce as it can be quite salty.
An alt. spring roll recipe –

5. Chickpea Omelet
Blend or hand mix 2/3 cup water, 1/3 cup chickpea flour, 1 tbsp ground flax seed, 1 tbsp nutritional yeast, 1/8 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. Pour it over a greased skillet over medium-high heat. Let it cook like you would a normal omelet, flipping when the edges are firm and there are bubbles. Once the other side is cooked, put it on a plate and fold over any fillings. I fill it with sauteed veggies (mushrooms, spinach, bell pepper and zucchini) and sprinkle on nutritional yeast.

HOW TO BE RAW VEGAN ON A BUDGET – 20 TIPS

Oh my gosh I have passed figs Wow being robbed vegan on a budget is definitely doable I have now been raw almost ten years and honestly I don’t make that much money so I’m gonna share some of my tips with you today and of course not everything is gonna be applicable to everybody but I’m sure if you stay through the video that you can find at least one takeaway tip for yourself look at your budget I know it sounds like cliche almost annoying advice to hear in the past I’ve looked into raw retreats and they’re like thousands of dollars and the response that I get from the people who are putting it on is like well what’s the cost of your health really cat and it’s almost a trick question because of course your health is priceless but we also have to be smart about our money and if getting in debt it’s gonna stress you in the long run like mental health is something you have to care about as well so of course I believe your health is priceless but I’m also not here to tell you to buy that $12 pint of blueberries because they’re healthy for you if you’re asking how much it costs to be raw you know very likely it will cost more than a processed diet so it might be worthwhile to reevaluate your expenses and see if there’s any reworking you can do when it comes to your spending really look at where your money is going and decide if it’s important to you make your staple foods cheap ones bananas are a great example buy in bulk in order to get case discounts and this is gonna work for fresh fruit it works for coconut water or juices anything that you want to buy in bulk you should be able to get the wholesale price for something like a 10 to 15% case discount at any grocery store don’t be shy to talk to the staff at grocery stores and farmers markets as well research your nearest wholesaler some of them even do delivery get creative I found a really good grocery store one time because I was talking to a restaurant owner about where he got his produce shop locally and in season because of its natural abundance in season fruit is likely going to be less expensive than something that’s been shipped in is it being shipped in right now [Music] and of course this also helps support your local farmers find aesthetically challenged fruit or veggies at your grocery store or farmers market sometimes they have a rack where it’s already marked down to scale fruit sometimes you can even just talk to them one-on-one and say hey this is kind of funky it’s probably headed for the trash but I’ll take it off your hands for you you just want to mark it down for me I did go over this in my other video and I’ll link that below don’t waste your coin there are quite a few on this topic so I’ll start with one which would be low calorie fruit something like out of season fresh raspberries for example those are gonna be so expensive I would consider them definitely as a luxury item and maybe use some more as like enhancements to your meals if you really want to go for that flavor so adding a few into your smoothie just to get that raspberry flavor or adding them as little toppings to your desserts instead of trying to make like a whole monomial out of them I’d say to think before you buy superfoods these can be quite pricy and not always worth it don’t waste your point on smoothies from restaurants I think once in a while it’s great to treat yourself but most of the time you’ll be able to make that same meal at home for a fraction of the price lastly don’t waste your money on the pre-cut prepackaged fruits and veggies in the like quick grab fridge sections of grocery stores I know it seems convenient but it’s just their way of squeezing dollars out of you while making use of their moldy fruit that’s what they do they’re cutting off the bad sections and it’s great I think as far as like sustainability and using all the parts of the fruit but they’re quite overpriced at the end of the day nobody’s getting a deal walking out a Whole Foods with like a little twelve dollar cup of watermelon and that touches on that low calorie point from the beginning is really understand how many calories you’re getting out of each dollar you’re spending watermelons on that note be prepared for outings if you know you’re someone who’s likely to get peckish so bring food with you or simply know where you can access cheap fruit while you’re out and if you’re asking what is cheap fruit like how if I’m getting a deal that’s a great question and I’m gonna encourage you to shop around there’s definitely a learning curve to this if you’re someone who’s new to buying fresh produce something I do and would definitely recommend with regard to shopping around is I keep a digital note on my phone and as I go to the different grocery stores and farmers markets in my neighborhood I have a list of my staple foods that I kind of always buy my favorite items and I will write the different costs for each store of course costs are gonna very subtly but I start to get an idea of trends of the cost of each fruit or vegetable how that changes throughout the year and how that differs from store to store in terms of like which ones are the more fancy grocery stores that are just charging work if they can and which ones are more like budget-friendly I’d also recommend exploring Asian markets if you have access my experience is that they have pretty good prices generally and a selection of exotic fruits that are hard to find anywhere else talk to other raw vegans and vegans especially the ones in your area you can do this in person or online like Instagram or 30 bananas a day pick their brain ask where they get their cheapest stuff the raw vegan and making community is amazing and I’ve had such a phenomenal time at every gathering that I’ve been to but I would never want anyone to get this idea that they have to blow the bank on an expensive raw vegan retreat just to maintain this lifestyle cuz that’s not the case of course you have the online community for support but there’s nothing better than in real life connection and there’s definitely budget-friendly ways to do that free options include pot Luck’s in your area or a lot of gatherings are free more like one-day events that are just hosted in a park or something as for longer-term events look into your volunteer options retreats need staff festivals needs that I’ve been to at least four festivals now and I have volunteer to every single one of them and of course it’s going to be a different experience because you’re working a lot of the time but it made it possible for me actually attend on the topic of travel think about how to factor your diet into your travel plans for example it’s gonna be tremendously cheaper to be a fruitarian in Thailand then it would be in Japan it’s gonna be cheaper to travel as a fruitarian in the tropics than it would be in Alaska in wintertime for example of course your diet is not here to rule your life but it’s something to take into consideration if it’s important to you and you’re on a budget as another option maybe consider combining whooping into your travel experience if that makes sense for you you know finding a farm you can stay on work on and eat from I do have a video on this topic and I’ll link that below as well there are a lot of guerilla farming that’s happening and just natural seed spreading that’s happening so there are wild plants that you can eat from foraging is gonna be location dependent and see them dependent but definitely consider it as an option the more and more that I learned about fruit and fruit trees the more as I’m driving around I can spy them in neighborhoods so get educated on what fruit trees look like you can also access different maps online I know when I was staying in California I just googled like fruit neighborhood map or something with these keywords and I was able to find so many fig trees in my area that were just public like on the side of the road that nobody else was accessing oh my gosh I have to pass to fig Wow so there are fruit maps available there’s also Craigslist some homeowners have fruit trees in their backyard that are really just a nuisance to them and they put ads like can somebody please come pick my oranges or have free oranges that may be also accessible on Facebook groups for your neighborhood you can also put an ad on Craigslist like will come pick your fruit if I can eat it I will soon be a full-on glowing orb as the Sun that’s right here Oh better so check out your map options Craigslist and heck I wouldn’t be surprised if there were even apps nowadays that facilitate foraging consider working or volunteering even a couple times a month at your local farmers market grocery store farm or co-op I say this because employees will often read the benefit of partial discounts or extra free food plus the networking opportunities of countless I know organic can be so expensive so maybe you can’t buy it right now and that’s okay and it doesn’t have to be all or nothing maybe you can just buy some and not others get educated if you’re sensitive on which produce is most susceptible to chemicals consider secondary options so of course fresh fruits and vegetables are gonna be ideal most of the time for a digestion and nutrition etc but there’s still some really great healthy secondary options that might be worth including cuz they’re a little easier on the budget most of the time in my mind this includes dried fruit and vege frozen fruit and vege fruit and veggie juice like bottled and maybe it’s even pasteurized and that’s okay with you you know we really have to find what works best for us and at the end of the day that’s gonna be healthy or no doubt and buying like soda bah minimize eating out I say this because restaurant meals will likely not fill up the stomach of a raw vegan if being honest and maybe there’s raw vegan gourmet on offer but I find that’s not worth it for me it ends up costing me my gut with too many refined and fatty ingredients I end up just healing you’ll grow your own simple things like herbs or scallion can be really expensive in the store and practically effortless to grow at home even something like kale does pretty well a lot of places because it’s so hard me so research in your area talk to your local farmers or research online you can figure it out shop online to find the best deals for particular items so your favorite superfoods powder is flavoring supplements even kitchen equipment using powders or supplements might be helpful for you from one person to the next we’re gonna have different deficiencies or lifestyle based need if you’re lacking in particular minerals for example it might require like a whole box of mixed greens to supplement you for that those boxes can be like six to nine dollars and if you have to have that every day that’s gonna add up as an alternative you could simply add a scoop of green powder to your movie so that way you get your nutrient requirements without breaking the bank learn how to prepare healthy satisfying raw vegan meals at home this was huge for me on my journey not only did it help save me money from going to restaurants but also helped me develop my relationship with my body and food and you too and that will find your personal way that become more efficient and cost effective with meal prep so to help you with this I have my four recipe books if you’re interested in low-fat raw vegan cuisine I like to focus on Whole Foods so there’s no processed ingredients like salt or oil nothing like now let’s show you or maple syrup or agave my priority still is on the texture and taste so you’ll be feeling really satisfied and if you want to go for all four books there’s a 15% off discount just so you know those are my 20 tips I hope you enjoyed watching this video and now it was helpful for you if you would like to support me and support the vegan message give it a blank i’m sending so much love your way and support on your raw vegan journey you can do it and thanks so much bearing with me as I shift it around to accommodate this son what do you think the world are all around you

Meat Lovers Try Vegan Diets For A Week

Jose and I are looking at the email the things we can’t eat can’t eat eggs oh I [Music] really like any type of food except for like really really vegetable Hanabi food I’m not used to looking at labels and get like a lot of knowledge and the like what goes into foods and if you complain my diets better after this and hopefully I learn how to cook something I’ve just been on this like journey of having like healthy relationships with myself food and exercise and I’m just excited to like start something new and do it and that healthy positive mental space we’re going on our first grocery mission I don’t know what to look for maybe we’ll just go to what we normally get and then look for options I made it to the fruit section which we can guarantee is beacon I found some mate listen I’m here for sausage not in my sexual life just in this life we’re going for the safe option safe option probably not that healthy but alright let’s try this vegan sausage put some mustard on it that’s vegan to consistency a little questionable but taste very good oh my god actually kind of tastes like sausage we have a little meeting today and here’s all the food that I can eat alright so we had catered lunch today and there was tons of sandwiches all of which had meat except one and as tofu I do not like tofu but I’m sticking it out today Oh me and my friend were talking and she’s vegan she was saying how like she gets annoyed when people do this because he will like starve and just don’t end up eating because they can’t eat anything and so I’ve really been making it a priority to make sure I’m not starving and I’m not I feel very full and I’m eating vegetables and I’m eating fruits and I feel good so I’m facetiming my boyfriend and he’s eating eggs I’m really jealous that looks really good right now so today I realized that not all vegan food is healthy I know that’s kind of dumb to realize I snacked a lot I had Oreos I had chips there was a lot of things you can’t eat when you’re vegan and not all of them are great for you so I think from now on I kind of just need to watch myself make sure I’m just getting like the nutrients I need so it’s about 2:30 a.m. usually right now I would make an egg sandwich with cheese but I can’t so my lunch today is sausage list sausage and broccoli I’m at the mall and I keep smelling Wetzel’s freakin pretzels and I can’t eat it and it’s killing me we are on our way to go to an all vegan restaurant we’re here we look at the menus the best part of this is that we can just choose whatever [Music] so after being vegan for a week I’ve realized that it’s truly like amazing got meatless meat options it still made me feel like I was eating me but I felt better about it honestly because I knew I wasn’t eating animals I think it really just opened my eyes to the fact that like I just need to start reading my labels of the things I eat because honestly the things not even are good to eat that don’t have vegan stuff in it I’m like oh my god they have this amount of sugar and other things that I should be looking at and paying attention to I’m really glad I did this challenge and from that one I can definitely see myself exploring a lot more options on the food so yes I will be continuing some vegan habits but also yes I am driving to Korean barbecue at this very moment, I just say today

My Advice to New Vegans

Okay so the question is what advice would you give to someone that is just getting started with all of this with all of this meaning diet or diet and training or what does all of this look like yeah the real challenges that keep coming up for me and most of the people that I talk with or work with it’s not the diet itself it’s how the diet is perceived that’s really the biggest challenge that’s the biggest hurdle to get around we have our we have our own brainwashing there were a lot of times when I started out running when I was doing the running raw project in those first few years where I really doubted that I was getting enough protein I wasn’t sure because I’ve been part of that cultural brainwashing and back when I was an athlete in my late teens I was doing lots of protein supplements and I was doing all kinds of gland products and all kinds of crazy crap and creatine and everything else because I wanted every edge I could take so you know fast forward 15 16 years into the future and part of my brain is saying well can I do it without those things is this diet enough I don’t know am I getting enough protein I am and there’s no evidence to show me the contrary but yet those doubts were still there and they those doubts stayed there for a couple years it’s only maybe the past three or four years that I’m really confident with this diet even though I had the data even though the data was right there I still had doubts well what if it doesn’t work for me what if I’m different somehow so it’s really about overcoming your own cultural brainwashing and then dealing with your friends and family and you know lovers spouses whatever it may be who are gonna have cultural programming as well that you could have to deal with then you’re gonna have to continually answer the question where do you get your protein or do get your FAS and where do you get this and where do you get that and how do you get your calcium and what about your b12 and we’re constantly bombarded with these things if you’re eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and some nuts and seeds you’re getting the most nutrient dense diet on the planet no standard American diet can compete as far as nutrient density goes as far as the wide variety of vitamins minerals and phytonutrients and fibers you can’t compete on those diets but yet the people eating those diets believe that somehow their diet is superior without any evidence to support it but it’s this like cultural virus that everybody has that they’re eating the deficient diet but clearly the vegans and the raw foodist those are the people that are deficient it’s like smokers telling people that they’re deficient in oxygen because they’re breathing clean air it’s like how could you get enough oxygen and breathing clean air you need cigarettes to get oxygen kind of you know what’s going on you know you get all these people that are eating a horrible diet which is heavily supplemented they’re like oh you can’t be vegan because you need b12 and that just shows the veganism doesn’t work well that’s interesting because your milk has vitamin D added your flour products have niacin riboflavin thiamine and reduced iron added to them and on and on and on all of the products that you’re eating are heavily supplemented your diet doesn’t work in fact your diet heavily supplemented still leads to heart disease cancer diabetes and on and on and on so the government tried to fix your diet by adding lots of supplements to it mandating that these foods be supplemented and you’re still falling apart but yet they believe somehow that were the ones that are deficient it just doesn’t make sense but this is what we have to deal with we have to deal with a culture that doesn’t make sense that’s going to alienate us and that’s going to attack us and it’s going to make us question ourselves so if you’re eating a wide variety of foods and a wide variety of flavors and textures you’re going to be okay and maybe you want to take some vitamin b12 maybe you want to take some vitamin D that’s up to you do your research get your blood tested but even so no big deal you’re gonna be healthy it’s really about dealing with the the emotional stuff dealing with the cultural stuff that’s the biggest hurdle so you know my advice is never defend yourself just smile nod you know make a joke about it but don’t defend yourself because you can’t win that conversation because it’s not a rational conversation

Longevity and a Vegan, Plant Based Diet – Brian Clement

now can you imagine if these people gave up eating any animal-based food and how much longer they may live because from the loma linda studies which is v blue zone that was just added recently they showed that plant-based eaters live an average of seven years longer than meat-eaters and unfortunately in these blue zones many people don’t follow their own rules so they may be cheating and eating small amounts of meat and dairy here at Epocrates we’ve shown the best of blue zones on the planet earth ever in the history of humanity there’s no meat there is no dairy people do live longer none of us age the way the rest of the population ages not because we’re exceptional because their degradation because they are the exception to the way they should be living one thing that Hippocrates prides ourselves on is we’re not mono focused on diet alone longevity is a compilation of different attitudes movement exercise food and even a spiritual life whatever that may be for you whatever that individually is for you what we know is that we’re multifaceted creatures and we need to start with an attitude of purpose and if we know why we’re here and what we can contribute we’re bound to want to do so we know that exercise is equally important to food because you could eat the best food in the world but not being mobile with your body and the muscle structure building your bones are gonna get weak you’re going to age your hormone levels are going to go down your minds not going to be as astute and we don’t want that so we want to do weight lifting exercise stretching exercise and aerobic exercise we know that when you don’t alter a food and you eat raw plant-based organic food it has not only the many nutrients that we already can identify in biological science but how many more are there we the yet to discover and we may find out tomorrow or a hundred years from now that there’s elements in this food because you haven’t processed it that is really the key to why we live a long time this work began in 1954 by dr. Harman and dr. Harman realized that when you gave certain nutria to the human cell they were antioxidants and helped to prevent free radicals we also know that exercise and other lifestyle points help to prevent free radicals and some free radicals are not so bad for you but we want to take the masses of free radicals and hold them back we also know that when you think that you’re part of something larger whatever that may be the universe God religion it always gives you an ability to free yourself of stress and study after study has shown people who have faith true on adulterated faith live longer and when you combine those as we have here you can have magic occur where people live long happy healthy productive lives I don’t want to live a long life if I’m not productive that should be your mantra I want to live a productive long life you

Training with the Meat-Free MMA Fighter

More important is the time that I’m having while I’m training in the actual fight you know the fight is just a result upon my training was and how I’ll prepare that way so if you put too much pressure on the result and you have an attachment to the result then you’re always waiting for that moment you don’t enjoy everything that happens up until that moment flights gonna happen on that day when that day comes I’ll get my adrenaline going but I’m not going to get my adrenaline going today over that let’s start from closed guard today if you open the legs keep going if you get to half guard keep going into a full pass if the guy turns to his knees the guys I hear boom it turns to his knees keep going until it’s a full pass if he gets both hooks then you stop all right if you sweep or submit you stop all right let’s go my name is Kron Gracie I was born in Rio de Janeiro Brazil I’ve been competing which it’s my whole life teaching my whole life more recently like the past five years I’ve been focusing on MMA Jiu Jitsu is the biggest foundation for fighting I think if you don’t know jiu-jitsu it’s gonna have a hard time to get into a real fight with somebody because the fight is most likely going to end up on the ground at some point so I think jiu-jitsu is the most valuable martial artist I’ve been teaching introduced my whole life I spent a lot of time building this gym spending a lot of time building my jiu-jitsu spend a lot of time building my students good job guys good morning everybody are you guys ready for some apple cider vinegar shots for what if I cannot do this first helps flush out my body of my system first and then I’ll have like either your water or lemon water at least just water for me I like to stay light in the day and I get my body just enough of what it needs to get through that workout or through that next stage luckily Eggs Benedict right now or the big meal it’s going to slow me down I used to be able to eat anything and go train and do anything you know any 20 year old kid is going to be able to eat anything and perform still I’m going to be 28 so there’s only so long you can fight for if I’m like eating bad foods it’s really putting my body in danger it’s really putting it in risk I enjoy to eat healthy because I enjoy being able to train the way I train able to feel the way I feel and I’m supporting things that are good for the environment good for the world basically haven’t eaten a year I eat fish and I don’t need too much dairy I don’t drink milk I don’t eat that much gluten it just kind of happened slowly you know it took a long time for me to be able to really believe and not being able to eat meat and still be a professional athlete I’ve been doing jiu-jitsu since basically before I can remember what is what I already was training with a little ghee on and a little yellow belt I started learning with my father and he learned with his father so we come from a very strong foundation of jiu-jitsu my grandfather was the Jiu Jitsu what Einstein is to mathematics you know he basically took Japanese Jitsu which was based on explosiveness and strength and started developing his own techniques his whole mission was to prove that jiu-jitsu was based on leverage and that a weaker man can beat a bigger man within a little bit of time he became the one who was the representor and like actually fighting and his brother kind of stepped inside and became the businessman and them together was real made the Gracie family one had 21 kids the other one had nine kids and they just basically created this army of little jiu-jitsu champions biggest martial arts family in the world and we’ve been representing for hundred years most people who even watch fighting don’t even know who the Gracie’s are it’s almost lost and your arm trying to make sure that the family name is kept alive [Music] you we’re in Santa Monica and we’re gonna run six miles to Venice pier and back you really don’t need that much food like if you’re eating like nutritious food with nutrients in small meals you can keep your energy level way higher have a better endurance have a better training have a better everything you know you live longer move faster and think better when you eat a lot of food it makes almost like slow I’ve eaten like that too and I eat like this and I’m able to perform way more and do more if I eat less and just see good food I [Music] train for triathlons to help me with fighting for me triathlon and running and biking and swimming is just fun and being out and just doing something different because I’ve been caged up in a gym with a bunch of men training sweating just grappling and punching that it’ll drive you crazy I’ve learned a lot of breathing from my father you know he from a little young age my dad you always was encouraging me to learn how to breathe and he always did diaphragm work and did a lot of movement with breathing and as I get older and older and older more difficult situations more mental stress more physical stress all these things start adding up and I kind of started to breathe more and I kind of restarted to notice that it was a big part of my life and a big part of my growth and my peace so I started to put more time into it and I’ve created my own like sequence of things I like to do in ways I like to breathe things that I think are important luckily I brought a a backup protein this is this plant-based protein I really enjoyed being like good news you know tired you know like II hydrated overworked broken down sore I really enjoyed those students vision makes me feel alive you know this is a bag of sport endurance gel just sugars and salts and potassium extra lights and stuff like that I try to be in touch with what’s coming in my body what’s going out of my body if I need energy how am I going to get it from Piper to awake how am I going to relax I’m just testing all these things out finding out what works for me what’s up and I have a number one piece and yeah yeah we’re going to do it all [Music] sometimes you don’t have it but today you have it the lentils right here and I’m gonna get the hummus too wherever there thank you this is ginger this is tumeric right and then you want to explain them what this is twelve complex with a little bit of an alkaline water the vitamin b12 that we use is derived by algae and easy to bring her everywhere she can explain everything so I don’t have to explain I’m not getting much of this right now I really feel like like this much of this and I can train for another like two hours three hours easy by now my priority isn’t eating my priority is training so I’m gonna eat what I need just to get me through the training after I’m done with all my workouts then I’ll just take time to eat and you gear up and get ready for the next day it’s six o’clock yeah I’m going to go to my house show there for a little bit and then we’ll go from there ah my personal masseuse I mean it’s not like an actual massage but it definitely helps makes me feel good like my body knows exactly when ten minutes is up I already know oh so I’m ready to minerals and this helps oxygenate your blood there’s no typical day for me you know every day is a little different I follow my intuition you know what I feel what feels right to me which was my body what feels good to my training that isn’t on a schedule except for it at 7 p.m. I got to be at the gym the last few years been kind of more focusing on my MMA I’ve been teaching less and focusing more on my progression and I have to put a lot of time into other things besides you Jitsu so I’ve been working my boxing in my judo kickboxing karate and my overall performance physically mentally and spiritually to reach these strong points in the fight after training you drink a lot of water and you drink a lot of liquids because I’m dehydrated I’m delusional because I didn’t drink a lot of liquids throughout the day so I’m first trying to get all my liquids in and then once that goes down I can eat [Music] it’s 10:30 right now it’s pretty early sometimes I only get out of training like I leave the gym at 11:00 or leave the gym at 12 thank you those are mice got a fight no no I was supposed to fight this month but we got pushed back to September can I have albacore sushi okay chrome grace hero a sweet shrimp and a baked crab hand roll avocado can I have a hug green tea and a Pellegrino yeah I was like man I like this roll we’re like a California roll with big scallops on top and they’re like but we don’t make that roll I was like can you make it for me and they’re like yeah and I’ve been coming here since I was like 12 years old so they just started making it for me and I’ve been trying to get him to put it on the menu but they just they’re like oh my god I guess I got to win a lot more fights when are we gonna get the Kron Gracie wrote on the menu that everybody wants to know only for me I’ll accept it hi it come race the road oh no very tasty good to get like a little light she she puts a lot of nutrients good protein and just good food if I were to try to eat like a big bowl of pasta or somewhere and I couldn’t do it this is baked crab with avocado to tell you truth right now I’m I’m already full I’m only eating this cuz I read or do I get pool quickly my first meal especially if it is close to training this is gonna pass and then I’m gonna get really hungry while you’re going to ask for all those calories that I burned see I’m still kind of full from all the drinks and all the training I’m still kind of tripping and stuff this is just for right now and then I’m going to eat at least at least one more time you know but once I’m done with my training now I forget about my training I try to forget about as much as that possible and I just hang out with my friends or hang out with myself or do my research or eat food relax this is the time I get to enjoy the day like really and I think life is about working hard then also getting to enjoy it and appreciate it and look back and I really absorb it for the next morning early I thought matinee Saturday matinee hello campus a pickup order please all right well gang it oh yeah can I get a breakfast burrito please with no meat and extra guacamole on the side Kron Carolyn see after training I could barely walk now I’m already like almost normal again until tomorrow morning then I won’t be room 11:40 yeah just getting home it’s early this is a really day for me so good about it it’s gonna be easier wake up tomorrow but I’ll still be up for at least 3-4 hours now I actually feel hungry before I was just eating just because it’s time to eat I’m gonna I was hungry too but but not definitely feel more hungry I feel like my body’s asking for what it’s just getting through all that water and all that that I drink I know that if I wanted to if I had to I could probably eat a lot and go work out and build train myself to do that but I just don’t feel like that’s necessary you know I feel like I like the way I do my thing [Music] people get comfortable in whatever they do I get comfortable when I’m in my gym I can be that all my students I’ve taught them everything they know and once I reach that comfort it’s not the most interesting thing for me because for me to really be able to improve and achieve things that are greater than me I have to put myself in an uncomfortable place that’s where I like to be you know so anything that makes me uncomfortable there’s going to benefit me from our mental of my physical I’m going to try to do you know I don’t really think of the famous what what I used to think it was you know I used to really want to be known for fighting and known to be the best in the world and I still want to be the best because I want to push myself to those limits but if I wasn’t going to push those limits with martial arts I would push those limits with other things you know whether it’s like environment for spirituality I still have it in the back of my mind that I have a bigger purpose and I don’t want to have any regrets with myself because I didn’t do what I felt was right and I feel like what I’m doing is right but I also feel like there’s a lot more to do in a global way so if I can use my fighting in my martial arts to help me achieve something better for the world that’s what I’m doing it for [Music]
